"One day, we shall die. All the other days, we shall live."
Wow. I saw a headline about this yesterday, but didn't read the story. Apparently the Enquirer underestimated Bezos' tolerance for public embarrassment. That kind of extortion has to be illegal, right? No surprise the shit they're up to - look at their association with Trump and help covering up his adultery.

Are any of these fuckers capable of not committing any crimes for five fucking minutes?
Even when under investigation, or having actively signed an immunity agreement which is void if they continue to Do Crime?
It seems not.
Also, yeah, try and blackmail the richest man on the planet who also owns a media outlet with material that is, ultimately, not particularly embarrassing. And put it writing.
Good move, you stupid bastards. You stupid bastards.

and they thought offering to publicize his dick pic was going to keep him under thumb?
"In a field where an overlooked bug could cost millions, you want people who will speak their minds, even if they’re sometimes obnoxious about it."
Isn't it fairly obvious the exchanges between him and his girlfriend were made before he and his wife announced they would divorce?
Congratulations America
I agree. Bezos isn't divorced yet. The leverage assumed wasn't just that Bezos didn't want intimate pics published, but that he stood to lose an unacceptably larger amount of wealth in the divorce if the, ah, hard evidence of his cheating went public, and so he would do as they demanded to avoid that. That assumption was wrong and I applaud his response.

This is bizarre. AMI might be a money-grubbing enterprise that routinely abuses the 1st Amendment to publish tabloid trash (or use catch-and-kill extortion to bury stories)....but they can't be this stupid. Something else is going on. Whatever it is, I hope it backfires and they go bust.
What he did was probably the best way to keep the pictures from going public. If the Enquirer releases them now, with all eyes on them, it would be pouring gas on the fire. And I saw in the NYT that Bezos' claims are under investigation now for invalidating the agreement with prosecutors over the Trump cover up payoff.

Yes, that was mentioned in the Twitter thread. What a wonderful bunch of self-owners.
