There are few people in politics who are genuinely admirable, and John Lewis was one of them. There's been a massive outpouring of appreciation from regular, decent people all over social media. The insincere, contemptible reactions from conservative politicians have been appropriately derided:



It's right to spit on these chancers when they release hollow, platitude-laden statements purporting to honor his memory—and their purported friendship—while simultaneously doing everything they can to desecrate his legacy by refusing to restore the gutted VRA. The man fought his entire life to help the US become something that resembles a functioning democracy, while being opposed by corrupt, racist conservative politicians every step of the way. Hopefully, sometime in the coming few years, a new Congress will help realize his primary legislative objective.
