Thread: The Impeachment of President Trump

  1. #271
Trump spent the day lying, and either he or one of his allies shockingly tried to destroy his claim to executive privilege wrt Bolton's testimony. Meanwhile, Giuliani contradicted the official position that Trump was only talking to Parnas and Fruman at that dinner because Giuliani brought them; Fruity G now says he wasn't even at that dinner, and only got to know those two scoundrels much later. Stupid Watergate.

Honestly strange behavior by Roberts - here is the exact question:

"Are you aware that House intelligence committee staffer Shawn Misko had a close relationship with Eric Ciaramella while at the National Security Council together and are you aware and how do you respond to reports that Ciaramella and Misko may have worked together to plot impeaching the President before there were formal house impeachment proceedings?"

  3. #273
Super strange from the perspective of a useless cretin who has his head stuck up his ass, yes. For all his flaws, Roberts is a real jurist—not some galaxy brain reddit lawyer. And that's why he told Paul to gfh, prompting this pathetic tantrum.

5 days to go and this silly thing will be done.

I'm glad the Senate voted for no witnesses. Now history will know what a sham the Senate trial was, and how worthless its verdict will be.

The American people had heard from 17 witnesses, none of which were called from Trump's side in the House. If they can't make their case with 17... well it seems like that they are just trying to run the clock to impact an election. Which in the end is hilariously ironic.

Are you deliberately ignoring the fact that the white house banned anyone from testifying, and that the Republicans in Congress prevent them from being forced to?
Keep on keepin' the beat alive!

This is a really dumb take. Relevant witnesses should have been questioned by Senators. The American people are not tasked with trying an impeached president—the Senate is. The refusal to call Bolton to testify just compounds their complicity in Trump's corruption. Your position that it's cool for those trying a crook to coordinate the trial with that crook, and to obstruct the prosecution, is just plain dumb.

Yes. Lewk is not a principled conservative; he's an authoritarian shitposter.

You mean they cited executive privilege, yes? The legislature cannot force the executive to testify but they can remove the head of the executive branch and we'll see how that vote goes.

  11. #281
Genuinely quite pathetic to see you applauding a crook's attempts to obstruct justice.

Maybe Nixon shouldn't have been encouraged (by fellow Republicans) to resign before the full impeachment process could play out?

Nixon used a circular reasoning for "executive privilege" just like Trump does: if a president does something, it can't be wrong or illegal, because he's the president.

Might as well get a tattoo of Trump on your back, and name him Imperial Leader, Supreme Leader, or King.

The House indicts and the Senate holds a trial, with the House making its case. The House determined that the witnesses they had were sufficient. They could have litigated whether certain White House officials were compelled to testify about whether the president's "state of mind" was "corrupt" but this would have been unprecedented in a number of ways, so they chose not to litigate this because they felt their case was sufficient.

The fact that they now say their case wasn't strong enough to impeach without more witnesses either means they never thought it was a strong case, or they shouldn't have impeached.

I just finished watching Bojack last night and I'm not ready to watch another depressing cartoon yet. Could anyone share with me the highlights of tonight's State of the Union?

After all the abuse Cruz and his family have taken from Trump, only to see him vote not guilty twice in a row... really shows how spineless and cowardly the party has become.

An equally valid alternative is that Cruz swallowed his pride and helped Trump push the conservative agenda. Cruz has long held a passion for ensuring a conservative judiciary and Trump has delivered.

Ted Cruz has long had a passion for Ted Cruz. For the rest of the Cruz family? Not so much.

Trump's purging everyone who testified. If it were anyone else, this would be illegal, but Trump didn't get where he is by following the law.

If you think someone was less than truthful in their testimony wouldn't you want them gone?

If I were innocent, I wouldn't be treating my acquittal like a free pass to break anti-retaliation laws. I'd only think it was a free pass if I was guilty, everyone knew it, and I got away with it anyways.

Are you suggesting that if Trump felt he lied to congress he should still keep him on for the sake of appearances?

  23. #293
Removing Vindman from his post was expected and uncontroversial. However, having security escort him out was an unnecessary slight, and treating his brother--who had not testified against Trump--in the same manner was outright retaliatory. Lewk, you and I and everyone else here knows that both you and Trump are full of shit. Trump's actions make more sense if you presume that he's guilty and unfit, and GOP senators' actions also make more sense if you presume they know he's guilty and unfit. Please don't make yourself dumber than you already are.

If Trump felt he lied to Congress, he would have allowed others to tell the truth, instead of ordering everyone not to testify or cooperate. These firings are the actions of someone who sees no reason to follow the anti-retaliation laws that everyone else in the country is expected to follow. These are the actions of someone who maintains loyalty through fear. These are the actions of a dictator.

Trump's petty - something I've never disagreed with. If he feels wronged he's going to go there, its one of his weaknesses (see the ridiculous tit for tat he got in with a gold star family) but the underlying issue of should Vindman be removed is way more important than the optics regarding him being escorted out.

The issue of retaliation against a whistleblower complying with a congressional subpoena is more important than your inane bullshit. Stop making excuses for criminal abuse of power.

Retaliating against the brother falls under something we call "Sippenhaft".

Something the Nazis practiced a lot.
When the stars threw down their spears
And watered heaven with their tears:
Did he smile his work to see?
Did he who made the lamb make thee?

I believe Trump was partly elected on the back of such a policy, by dingdongs with tiny limp dingdongs.
