Uh huh, "revisionist history." Yeah, things were massively different in '98 and when I "joined" the gay community in CA in 2000, when I started college in Santa Cruz. Those two years were the exact time the HIV crisis abated (it still hasn't) and the "Queer Movement" (which had been going strong since the '92 election at a minimum) got traction.
