President Donald Trump's campaign rallies between June and September may have caused some 30,000 coronavirus infections and more than 700 deaths, according to a new study by Stanford University economists.

And still some idiots say "Biden is such a poor candidate he turns up to speak and 12 people are there".

    US Exit Polls are awful.

UK exit poll: This is the result we expect.
US exit poll: How do you like to exit? 54% said via the door.

It will be interesting to wake this morning and follow the mess over the next few weeks.
I do suspect Trump will win... but I could be horrible wrong.

I hope he does but I think Biden pulls it out. I really don't think America is the country it used to be. The latest generation literally wants socialism. I see videos of 100% justified police shootings and people cry foul and want to defund the police it is pretty insane.

Biden has almost certainly lost Florida.

If I had to guess, I think the only pathway for a Biden victory now runs through Pennsylvania. AZ helps (and early numbers there are encouraging) but it'd be razor thin margins without PA (or OH if things get really weird).

So that means that we can all go to sleep and wait a few days for the rest of the data to come in.

Nobody should be paying much attention to the results yet. There's a lot of shit going on this election, and reliable results won't be had for a couple days.

Ohio looks like its been called for Trump by some outlets. Looking like PA will decide it and they just decided to take a break until the next day to keep counting... come on guys don't keep the country in the dark. Frankly it will be kind of crazy if some last minute court cases end up tipping the election 5-4 with ACB writing the decision.

Doug Jones got annihilated. Also I'm sorry but Martha McSally, AZ doesn't like you, you kind of need to give it up and either run for something else or just retire from politics. Mitch cruising to victory (expected) by some healthy margins, especially given the crazy amount of out of state money in the race.

I get the feeling that the 'hold your nose' candidate of the Democrats hasn't made it. Wouldn't be surprised by four more years of Trump.
    Congratulations America

Biden flipping Nebraska-02 means that Biden 270 v Trump 268 looks entirely plausible.

I'd like to remind all of you how I was pooh-poohed for my caution wrt poll numbers that looked good for Biden back in the debate thread...

As I said there, Biden still has a good chance to win, but it'll be close. Given the current state of counting we won't know much until Thursday most likely.

Looks like it... after lunch here I would say Biden got it now but we will see.
Last night I thought Trump for sure.

And in numbers, in reality it's a very close 50/50.
Since there are pretty big differences in political views in some areas that are fundamentals the U.S. is clearly a divided country for many reasons.

Many elections in European countires are starting to look like this as well.

    Dispatch from the failed state:

Meanwhile, Republicans' anti-democratic poll tax in Florida may have paid off. What a sad country.

I find it interesting that record-high turnout rate yields fairly similar results.

Meanwhile, California stepped away from a rent control abyss (again) and several states voted to legalize ranch.

But trying to just wait and see what happens, this will take time. Pennsylvania is habitually incompetent (yet important).

This isn't really true, Dems have won the popular vote in 7 of the last 8 presidential elections. It's just that the electoral college and the structure of the Senate make for an adverse environment for Dems in national politics.

Massive swings in a number of counties, and if Biden flips a few states that will hardly be "fairly similar". I expect Biden's popular vote margin will be greater than Clinton's was.

Yah, it's that stupidly antiquated system.

Who'd have thought that a centuries old document that does not easily get updated makes problems later on?

Did he smile his work to see?
Did he who made the lamb make thee?

Pennsylvania would have to swing more than 70% towards Biden in the estimated remaining votes. Possible but I don't really trust the projections that it's how the absentees are expected to play out. If he does then if can get just one of Michigan, Wisconsin, or maybe still North Carolina? then he's got it. Even without Penn if he can carry both Michican and Wisconsin he could still eke it out. Again, feeling kinda skeptical when I look at how the Dems have seen their majority decrease in the House and how it looks like they won't be taking the Senate. I think it's four more years. And I just don't see how the American public even in the GOP strongholds is just that dumb and suicidal after this pandemic. Florida I get, they're just lunatics.

Biden is now leading in Michigan and Wisconsin, if he can hold onto his lead in Nevada and Arizona then that's his 270 with no Pennsylvania necessary.

MI and WI looks pretty good based on the geographical distribution and nature of the remaining uncounted ballots. WI likely to go to a recount, though.

PA is pretty tight, but so many of the remaining votes are mail in ballots, especially from the Philly area, that it's possible we could see that kind of shift. I'm less convinced, though, given results in Eastern Ohio and the much tighter races in MI and WI than polling suggested.

NV is also tricky, looks pretty good for Biden but going to be close. If NV doesn't go for Biden, he'll be in trouble - then he'll need either PA, GA, or NC, none of which look great. So honestly I think the attention should be on PA and NV.

The Senate was always going to be a tough lift so I'm not shocked - I was more surprised that models were predicting 51-52 seats as we got closer, some of those marginal seats didn't seem very likely to me.
