In the interest of posterity, I predict this pandemic will produce a degree of stagflation never seen in recorded history. Prices will soar and wages will stagnate. Wealth inequality will increase and homelessness will become how we define poverty.

If hindsight is 20-20, why is it so often ignored?
If anyone is curious as to where the next big outbreak will be...

FYI, that pastor is a pain in the ass to deal with and hides behind an army of lawyers, he also claims to have cured zika. Even with that, we managed to shutdown his evening service.

Momentous times.
When the sky above us fell
We descended into hell
Into kingdom come
And then there's triage in the UK.
Possibly later today also in the Netherlands.
Saw an article about one of those aid agencies asking governments of developed countries to help out developing countries. I have this feeling that giving away equipment for the treatment of covid-19 cases may be not entirely popular in countries that are the usual donors.

Congratulations America
Thieves think everybody steals. Trump attacks nurses for equipment shortage.

UK's not tracking Italy.
When they said that a while back UK was on 233 while coincidentally Italy had also been on 233 on 7/3
Eight days later the UK is on 1415, while Italy was on 1809.
1415 isn't ideal but its considerably lower than Italy had.

You're still on the same trajectory as nearly everyone else.

And rationing of care, esp. vents. Disturbing reports that cancer patients are being put on a scale of longevity and told not to continue chemo. Same thing happening in outpatient clinics in the US, with cancer treatments on hold.
Uganda has more cabinet members than ICU beds and vents. Also....India's 1.3 Billion people supposedly on lock down with no way to "social distance" among the poor.Saw an article about one of those aid agencies asking governments of developed countries to help out developing countries. Another try at Rand: To fight a *novel* virus it's important to do the same thing at the same time; that's why it's a bad idea to close non-essential business but keep schools open, or have rolling-policies where people can still move around freely. Keeping your schools open did NOT reduce transmission/infection, and it takes years to achieve herd immunity -- that's why your government's initial response is widely criticized, and why we're saying you shouldn't keep defending it.
Kudos to Germany for taking patients from other countries who need ICU/vents.
Interesting to read this thread from the 2/27 OP.
So much time wasted....
Why the fuck hasn't every single journalist pounced on Trump's blatant lie that nobody had heard of the virus a month ago? Trump himself held a briefing on it two months ago. His admin has claimed they've been preparing for it since December. What the fuck is wrong with this stupid fucking country?
"One day, we shall die. All the other days, we shall live."
They did...but Trump is the master con-artist, manipulating certain media (Fox) while calling other journalists the Enemy of the People. He can't even do a covid-19 press briefing without mentioning reality TV shows, or talking about his hair.
It's embarrassing.
edit: Trump is just the symptom of our larger problems. I can't say WTF is wrong with the American people writ large, but it's the kind of BAD that can only be exposed during times of crisis. The American people will only do the right thing after they've tried everything else first. Paraphrased.
edit #2: There's been a slow erosion of trust in science and Public Health, because it's been viewed thru a political lens. Just look at the anti-vaccine 'movement' with parents thinking childhood vaccines (MMR) cause autism -- even tho that's been de-bunked, or the gluten-free 'movement' that really doesn't affect anyone but the small % of Celiac patients.
We have over-used antibiotics to the point that we have resistant strains, and every parent wants an antibiotic every time their kid gets an ear infection, and grocery stores have anti-bacterial wipes at the front door -- but they don't want to vaccinate their kids?
In short, our for-profit healthcare system and Big Pharma is largely to blame. We let insurance companies dictate health policy a long time ago, and by default that meant we didn't give science -- or medical professionals -- the respect they deserved. Doctors and nurses have been complaining about this for decades, but it fell on deaf ears. Yay for Lobbyists? USA #1

I'm getting confused about the "rules", because they keep changing. It used to be that wearing face masks was discouraged because it made lay-people touch their face more often, and gave them a false sense of protection, and took away the protections meant for professionals that are in short supply...but now I'm hearing "health experts" say we should wear masks when we take short jaunts to the grocery store.
WTF?
Trump sent a ship to help NY. A city that badly needed it and fucking New Yorkers came out in a crowd to watch it come in. Like holy hell, y'all serious?
It's N95 masks you're supposed to save for professionals - they're the ones that make it reasonably safe to breathe around the infected. Surgical masks are what they're talking about when they say you should wear them for short jaunts, but they mostly protect other people from you by capturing moisture as you exhale it. They're not very effective at protecting you from other people, but they're not totally ineffective either.
I'm aware of the differences between N95 and surgical masks. It's still confusing bullshit. Because we have a void in leadership that leaves a vacuum....
<Most of the home-made masks are designed to wear over N95 masks, so they can discard the first layer of protection but keep the valuable filter and wear it for a whole shift, extending its life but not using it as designed>
and I've also started watching Fox News, just to see how they cover the facts. It's quite disturbing.

Bold of CBS to try the same shit that ABC did with the fake Syrian footage. NEVER trust the media.
