    Thread re. police and prosecutors retaliating against cops who reveal severe misconduct their colleagues have tried to cover up:

    "One day, we shall die. All the other days, we shall live."

    I just don't see that happening in the US—hence the q re. "realistic" paths forward.

    In that case, there are none. Things like bodycams help at the margins, but they do nothing to change the basic policing culture. A lot has to do with how police officers are trained, with who's doing the training, and the kind of people who try to join the police. Not to mention public disinterest in massive abuses carried out by the police. Nothing will bring about fundamental changes.

    Even states that ban public sector unions have "police benevolent associations" which effectively do the same thing.
