Bright lil kid goes to the wrong address (because he lives in a stupid city with stupid naming conventions) to pick up his lil brothers, and gets shot through a storm door by a crazy racist jackass. Mfer shoots him twice—once in the head, possibly after he's already on the ground—and leaves him for dead. Kid miraculously escapes death, and runs to seek help at nearby houses, only to be denied assistance by neighbours—until one relents and calls 911 after telling the kid to lie flat on the ground. He's initially in poor condition, but has now been discharged and is expected to make a full physical recovery (no idea whether his ability to play musical instruments has been affected). Cops release the crazy ol' racist because (they say) they need a statement from the kid before they can arrest him; he's skips town for his vacation home in another state.
Now there's a warrant out for his arrest, and authorities will hopefully be able to take him into custody before he harms himself or anyone else. The kid will (hopefully) be the beneficiary of a massive gofundme pot that's currently at $2.8m+ and perhaps some sort of justice will eventually be done (although I'd be surprised if the attacker does any real time). But it's striking what a primitive shithole country the US has become, where people—esp. non-white people—can't even breathe without risking murder at the hands of violent right-wing idjits among the public and even among the police. Also striking is the solidarity these murderous cretins find among their neighbours. Does anyone believe this is sustainable? A society where people get murdered for inadvertently taking the wrong turn? It's past time the halfwits who support this state of affairs were—at the very least—shamed right into the dirt.
