    Two gay men (one Iranian, one Cameroon) denied Asylum on the grounds of their sexuality have won an appeal at the Supreme Court. Here is an amusingly trite quote
    'To illustrate the point with trivial stereotypical examples from British society: just as male heterosexuals are free to enjoy themselves playing rugby, drinking beer and talking about girls with their mates, so male homosexuals are to be free to enjoy themselves going to Kylie concerts, drinking exotically coloured cocktails and talking about boys with their straight female mates.'
    I agree with this decision, saying "yes you'll be executed at home because of what you are, so pretend not to be it and you'll be fine" is not right and not remotely consistent with our own laws.

    Well, I suppose in theory one could bring proof that they've been prosecuted or officially harassed because of this. But that would limit refugees to countries where homosexuality is explicitly prohibited.

    Actually they are not that far off the mark; it's quite easy to fake being homosexual if a penchant for Kylie Minogue does the trick. Which also shows what's wrong with the way these judges mixed up things you can choose and things you have no choice in.

    The problem with that is that in Iran being prosecuted for being gay immediately follows on being officially harassed and typically is followed by death.

    That sort of puts a damper on the asylum process.
