That explains why imdb wasn't being useful when I was trying to look up this "original" Legion movie.
Hurt locker.

That's what I thought too. Rather unrealistic too, while it seems to be a movie going for the realistic feel.It was pretty good, but not excellent.

Keep on keepin' the beat alive!
only interesting character in Burn after Reading was Brad Pitt, and the only interesting scene was when he got a bullet in the head...
Well, brilliant, I loved it might be overrated due to drunkenness etc., but I did like the movie.

So, I watched Precious
First of all
It did have a happy, and uplifting ending What the fuck, guys, this is bull-shit
Second, the entire film seemed like a propaganda reel; the nigger is bad, the nigger abuses and destroys socialism, the nigger is abhorrent and loathsome. As Dread likes to point out, maybe it is impossible to run a civilization with a diverse and large population. Certainly this piece of cinema tried to underline that notion. It wasn't one of those good, soul-crushing movies of the reality of being human, it was just a poorly written sob story about people who abuse a system already beset with difficulty.
In the future, the Berlin wall will be a mile high, and made of steel. You too will be made to crawl, to lick children's blood from jackboots. There will be no creativity, only productivity. Instead of love there will be fear and distrust, instead of surrender there will be submission. Contact will be replaced with isolation, and joy with shame. Hope will cease to exist as a concept. The Earth will be covered with steel and concrete. There will be an electronic policeman in every head. Your children will be born in chains, live only to serve, and die in anguish and ignorance.
The universe we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is, at bottom, no design, no purpose, no evil, no good, nothing but blind, pitiless indifference.
Good film. I thought the Russell Crowe character had a sort of avenging angel thing going on in the end and IMO it took away from the story. But whatever.
Not if you think of the reality of this woman's life going forward. Yeah, she's not getting raped by her father and her ass kicked by her mother all day long and yeah she can read a book and write in her diary, but Jesus, her life is still a horrible nightmare. Yeah, its a tiny bit better. Yay!
I did pick up on the anti-welfare angle but I didn't take it as a cautionary tale against socialism.Second, the entire film seemed like a propaganda reel; the nigger is bad, the nigger abuses and destroys socialism, the nigger is abhorrent and loathsome. I've never had the fantasy that there weren't really people who take advantage of the welfare system. I'm certain there are a lot. And plenty of people's lives might have ultimately been better if they never got on welfare. But that doesn't mean the majority of people who use the welfare system arn't helped by it. You can't take a few psycho cases, like the anecdotes in the film, and say "yep, proof positive welfare never works and is a net bad for society." That's just stupid. And in this specific case, the worst thing these people were dealing with - incest - did not have its origin in welfare. Precious would have been fucked up regardless if mom was getting a check from the government.
EDIT: Saw Hot Tub Time Machine last night. It was sort of funny but overall could have been done a hell of a lot better. I gave it 2/5 stars on netflix.

Saw 'Sterke verhalen' (dutch that). Was mildly amusing, but I seriously wondered why this movie made it to a theatre at all. Seemed like typical after-school amusement or straight to DVD material.
Congratulations America
Isn't that the problem with most Dutch movies though?
I saw the trailer, didn't appeal to me at all, so I am skipping this one. Which makes me wonder if there are any movies worth watching for me in cinema right now, besides Inception but I have already seen that one. Are Salt and The Expendables worth seeing? I noticed Wraith thinks the latter is only meh so that's hardly encouraging..

Salt was entertaining.
Saw 'The Joneses' today. I don't quite know where the makers wanted to take this. Hold a mirror in front of the consumer society? A comedy ? A feel-good movie? A rom-com? It wasn't entirely bad, but I really felt they could have made more of it if they'd only tried a little bit harder.
Congratulations America
The Queen , Mystic River and Shutter island

Io sono l'amore. 120 minutes of wow, with Tilda Swinton in the lead. An Italian movie as the vehicle for a British actress who'd have thought it. The story of an Italian family, money aristocracy and the desintegration of their family. The only part that was a bit too long was a sex-scene that obviously was meant to make us understand that sex was something natural and beautiful and that it's even ok if middle aged women have it. If they'd cut out all the flowers and insects the movie would have been 5 minutes shorter and better. The message would have come accross all the same.
Congratulations America
Atonement Didn't expect to like it, but it was very good.

Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, old school VHS style.
Any movie that involves a doctor badass enough to operate on himself, handle a sword, and play the cello is worthy of a viewing.
Snatch was awesome, I love how they managed to close all the sideplots and tie it up nice at neat towards the end.
