It's a pretty good film. You should see it. I recall the marketing of the film was all wrong, giving it the impression of some lame video game movie like Mortal Kombat. It's nothing like that at all.

    Spoiler:
Had a heated discussion at the hair salon today, everyone had a different opinion about whether the whole thing was a dream or not. One guy said if you sit through all the credits, at the very end you can hear the totem drop as it stops spinning. Is that true?

Sorry Tim, I thought this was the Inception thread.

I saw Salt yesterday. It was... okay. It definitely kept you guessing through the whole thing, but I can't say I really liked how it turned out. I think there must be sequels planned; maybe I'll like it better once the whole story is really finished.

    No worries.

Saw Toy Story three three dee yesterday, in a very civilised cinema in Brixton where you can buy a beer or a glass of wine you can take into the movie with you.

Movie was fun. Despite the toddler in the row in front of us gettting scared at one point and screaming.

Starship Troopers 3 from the library. An excellent movie, as long as you were expecting horrible B level acting and scripting.

Cop Out from Red Box was pretty good, full of references to other movies, especially to other Bruce Willis movies.

    ...and...

    ...watched...

Unfortunately not, I just was so damn sick I couldn't get out of bed (except to puke!) and when I channel surfed it was more of the same (The View type daytime TV shows).

I'm not sure I will be able to sleep tonight, nightmares of middle aged judgemental women feigning happiness are lurking just beyond my conscious mind. Their bleak menopausal rage could tear the flesh from the bones of harmless bunny rabbits yet they somehow force laughter and sincerity for nigh on an hour - but they don't blink, they never blink!

    I am afraid.

PS - I may be a little delirious.

I finally broke down and saw Slumdog Millionaire yesterday. Anyone know the final question before they revealed the answer? In knew it was either A or D, and A did seem to fit better with the first two names.

Just watched Living in Oblivion. I didn't get it. Play on dreams I guess. In more ways than one, and pretty funny.

The Day the Earth Stood Still. The new one with Keanu Reeves. It was rather good, not nearly as boring as War of the Worlds. Reeves was the perfect actor as the alien with his "I'm a soulless robot" routine. Nice splash of needless action right when the story would start to get dull. However I couldn't stand the kid actor. Wanted to slap some god damn sense into that little bitch.

I saw my first full trailers for Sucker Punch today too. Synder talked about it a little during the live commentary for Watchman, and I'm glad to say I'm not disappointed with how it turned out. I don't think he left a [mainstream] fantasy genre untouched.

Watched the old BBC version of Day of the Triffids - the series. (1981)

Weirdest sci-fi ever, giant man eating flowers (triffids) take over the world after almost everyone is blinded by a strange comet/solar flare/bright light in the sky.

I saw this as a kid and recently decided to watch it again, not sure if this was a good idea or not since Jo seemed way sexier in 1981 than she does now and the rest of it just seemed too ludicrous for words.

I still watched all the episodes back to back though.

Wasn't that also an old black / white film, like from the '50s or '60s?

    EDIT: Sucker Punch looks awesome.

Yes, it was - it was originally a novel written by John Wyndham in 1951 and the story alluded to but did not confirm that The Triffids were creatures apparently bio-engineered in the Soviet Union and accidentally released when an aircraft carrying their seeds crashed (or was shot down).

Considering when it was written, the content and the pseudo-political backdrop it was something of a break-through for sci-fi novels - Arthur C Clarke is claimed to have called it an "immortal story".

I just thought that Jo was hot when I was a kid so I thought I'd watch it again.

Oh and I read the book in High School too.

lol - Day of the Triffids.

I was but a wee bairn when that was on the box.

Scared the hell outta me as I remember it.

But being a BBC sci-fi production of the early 80s, it's probably all shaky sets and rubbery monsters if you watched it now.

    ~

Whenever I see a heavy plant crossing road sign nowadays, I think of a Triffid crossing point.

It's more of an it's-summer-and-I-don't-have-anything-to-do-so-I-might-as-well-go-to-friends-and-drink-scotch-while-watching-movies week

And I liked NBK. Pretty weird, but intriguing.

It's good that you dream of one day being as awesome as a female is, but pick a better one for fuck's sake.

How is it that your taste in teevee is so good, but your taste in movies is total crap?

Salt, it was really entertaining even though it contained some wft moments of things that couldn't have happened even if she had the best training possible by both KGB and CIA. Quite shocking to realise they must have beat her up as a little girl in order to do the switch.
    Congratulations America
