I like some of the John Wayne movies. Because my dad liked them, so it's a nice memory. I also loved The Good The Bad and The Ugly, pretty much anything with Clint Eastwood. Yeah, I like "westerns". Dances With Wolves was on Sunday, great movie.Quote:

Spaghetti westerns are actually pretty decent cinema
Not my favourite thing by a long shot, but they have merit as far as movies go

John Wayne is absolutely the shit. Eastwood is good too. Samurai movies likewise, since we all know the best westerns are all nicked from old samurai movies.

I love a good western now and then. 'The outlaw Josey Wales' is my favorite followed closely by 'Rooster Cogburn'.
Whats messing my groove? I have to go back work today. I took yesterday afternoon off and the big boss chewed my ass over it this morning.
Record snow fall for this date. We've had 35 inches of snow in February, and it's only the 10th of the month. Record breaking stuff, for as long as records have been kept. Looking outside my window is.....very very strange. The only visible landmarks are tall trees and 2 storey houses. My mailbox is completely covered (it's about 3 feet tall, so the carrier can put mail in from their truck window). All the outdoor furniture is completely covered. The snow almost touches the bottom of the basketball hoop net (including thrown and drifting snow).
It's been 23 hours of non-stop snow fall, half an inch to one inch per hour. On top of the 2-3 feet from last week that didn't melt. With high winds and drifting. All state roads and interstates are closed. The radio broadcasts one of those eery beeeeep National Emergency Broadcasts every 30 minutes. National Guard called out to get doctors and nurses and transport to our Regional Hospital.
Lots of birds fluttering around tops of trees. They can't get to the holly berries or beauty berries, trees blanketed and no green or berry visible, all bird feeders got swallowed in snow. I can't get my patio sliding doors open, but threw some bread pieces out front. Snow level above the hand rail fence.
GODDAMMIT I knew this would happen....water is coming in my living room from the gutters/eaves. Onto the nice oak floor I had refinished recently. Wet sofa, wet draperies, wet plaster walls, wet floor. I'll have to file a homeowner's damage claim. :mad:
Jesus! Isn't there some way to redirect your gutters/drains until this shit stops?
With 3 feet of snow on the roof?

edit: I had the melting electric tape on the roof (if you know what that is) so I turned it off. It's ice damming. Fluctuations in temp make the snow or ice creep under the shingles, as it melts it's running along the attic rafters, and dripping into the house.

It' so fucked up here, the radio broadcasts National Emergency information, including pleas for ATV and snowmobile operators to assist the National Guard, to pick up and transport stranded hospital personnel.
People are having heart attacks shoveling snow, or getting limbs caught in snow blowing machinery, but no one can get to the hospital.
Then the radio news reports how it's illegal for ATVs and snowmobiles to operate within the city limits.
Our EMS sucks.

The other thing really messing with my groove? The ex wanted to have our son keep his Tuesday visitation, regardless of the impending Blizzard. Fine. Just as long as the boy is snowed in with one parent, I was thinking.
Then the kid calls me to say he's walked to his friend's house, so he wouldn't be alone, because dad decided to drive to Camp Hill (about 40 mins via highway on a clear day) to be with his girl friend. No, the man never thought to drive his son 'home' first. No, he never thought to call me first either.
Instead, he made it sound last night like he was prepared, willing--even excited--to have his son stuck with him today during a blizzard. No work, no school, hanging out at the house making cookies and hot chocolate or whatever. heh, he lied.
So, where is the kid now? At his friend's house, where he is safe, warm, and not alone? WTF is wrong with your ex's brain function? Too many drugs in college maybe?
Son is at his best friend's home, both parents are there (the father commutes to Baltimore, which is equi-distant for the ex to his girl friend's house, different motives I guess?) All roads were closed, but he decided to get a jump on things, rather to be snowed in with pussy than paternal duties?
I can't believe this is the man I married and planned children with. He didn't used to be this way. If he was, I didn't see it coming.
On the subject of snow...
Didn't the brown bag fans say Hell would freeze over before the Saint's won the SuperBowl?

Update---I have pots and pans on the bay window to catch the dripping water from the ice damming. The cats were caught trying to catch the droplets and drink from their paws. Something clicked in my brain and I've relaxed a bit. May have to do with some phone chats, this forum too, or maybe it's the rum.
ALSO, comcast got cable running again. I don't like Anderson Cooper much (btw did you know he is related to the Vanderbilt family?) but being reminded of Haiti placed things in perspective.
We've had about 3 inches of snow, maybe a bit more or less - not willing to go outside to measure it. Cold, miserable stuff. Don't want it.
