The existence of a Satan seems to make a lot less sense than the existence of a God, but only if you accept the more modern view of God as personal, all loving, all forgiving, intent on preserving free will, etc and the modern view of bible content as being largely educational metaphor. Boogie-men are for children and child-like, simplistic thinking. But God doesn't have to be that way. Right?
