Thread: What game are you playing now?

    They would, wouldn't they.

Never claimed Blizzard were the first, but not seen any successful attempts from Ubisoft that I can think of (there may be some I'm not aware of).

The thing with Apple and Blizzard is that they may not do things first, but when they do it they do it well.

Er, define "well" in this case

So I can only assume the laucher and patcher had a bug because I'm trying to log on now and what do you know, the game's downloading a patch. So they weren't just doing maintenance, they were in fact trying to patch. So even this bit of whining seems to be off-base.

The bug was the entire point. Their software can't see the difference between downtime or patching, or their autopatching needs a retooling so it doesn't loop into a "program already running"

    EDIT:
and now the lag spikes are making the game unplayable, and according to general chat its server wide. This is totally what I would call doing something "well"

And how long did it take for them to fix the bug? A couple of hours? Oh, the humanity!

Gamefly is offering From Dust for $3.75. Price makes it about worth it, but I suspect Steam is going to match the 75% off, so I'm going to wait a bit more and not have to deal with gamefly/D2D.

Finally defeated Diablo. Normal here is a fuck ton easier than Normal in D2. The boss fights are so very scripted and easy to read, and the fighting isn't as furious, thanks to them breaking the battles up into segments (which really kills the flow).

Or maybe its cause I only focused on DPS, with a 1 handed weapon dealing 558 damage before skill modes.

The "enjoyment" is supposed to be when you play on Insane, which means playing through the game 3 full times, (plus grinding, which Blizzard makes annoying by reducing drop quality of beaten areas). and by enjoyment I mean if you're playing a ranged character. If you're doing melee you'll likely top out at Hell.

I finished Normal at level 30, I didn't see a single drop that was better than rare. No uniques, no sets, just a handful of rares.

    Beaten bosses, not areas.

Uniques and sets aren't that great in D3.

They lowered the rewards for replaying multiple parts of the Heart of Sin quest, not just the ending when you kill Azmodan.

feel like I'm missing a joke, but...

stay in the middle, unless its on fire (if the whole place is on fire, restart, you took to long). stay behind him, especially when he hops twice. templar is nothing more than a 2nd health pot to use while you're waiting for yours to cool down, don't put any trust into him. For my barb I perfer the Scoundrel for the ranged bow, higher damage than the other 2 and because he is a direct ripoff of the King of Thieves from Xena.

It was all right once I realised I had to run a little

This game is surprisingly addictive but I have no idea why they've filled act II with so goddamned many tiny poisonous creatures, they add no enjoyment to the game whatsoever also all my storage slots are filled with rare and magical items. Almost all of my money has in fact gone towards buying slots yes, I'm a hoarder. The magic items are hard enough to let go of, I'm guessing I'll never rid myself of the yellow and orange ones

Btw unique items have been replaced by "legendary" items!

Haven't found any of those yet either.

Spent most of my money on leveling up the jeweler and blacksmith. Then I opened up more slots. Haven't saved enough for a new tab yet, blowing my cash on the crafting and jewel socketing every time I find a ruby.

Theres no point in saving most of the shit you find, break it down and use the materials for crafting.

So if I finish act 2 and take the caravan to the next act, and then join a coop quest at an earlier stage in act 2 for a quickie, will I lose my progress and be forced to finish act 2 all over again? Can't find good answers to this.

No you won't lose your progress.
The change quest tab will let you jump to any point you've previously beaten, or reached, including by difficulty level.

If you have EA's Origin, and didn't disable their email option, check your inbox and spam folder. They are sending out codes for free games to celebrate 1 year of Origin. Pick between BC2, DA:O and Spore.

So a big storm rolled through last night and knocked out my internet and cable for a few hours. No biggie, I thought, Skyrim has an offline mode. Well, I didn't realize that in order for offline mode to work, you had to have tried it at least once while the internet was up and running. Which kind of defeats the purpose. Another idiotic policy punishing the people who actually pay for games. So, no dragons to kill and no Netflix to browse, what's a girl to do? Rummaging through my PS3 games (thank goodness you can still play those without a connection!) I found my Brutal Legend copy and restarted it. It was good for a laugh, but the controls were all over the place. One of my big gripes with it the first time I played before. Still, it kept my attention for 45 minutes until the internet came back on. I might pick it back up now and again, since I didn't finish the game the first time I played it two years ago.

Various versions of this float across reddit every time someone has a problem with Steam's offline mode:

I'm going to post some info about Offline Mode based on my experience and research. I have about 423 games on Steam so I played with the client many times.

•Steam's Offline Mode for the most of the time requires you to use the "Go Offline" feature from the "Steam" menu at least once when you have the Internet connection. This ensures Steam to create an auth cache so it doesn't need to validate you while on offline. This practice is a bit weird and that is why people really don't do this and complain that Offline Mode doesn't work. It is a valid complaint.

•Sometimes, the auth cache is created without having to use "Go Offline". I have yet to figure out when or how exactly it is created, but it has to do with Steam server going maintenance while you are connected, your Internet connection briefly being dropped or such and getting back online. Steam never creates the cache while you are online for all I know. This is the reason why sometimes people say that they never had a problem using Offline Mode without having to use the "Go Offline" feature.

•Even with the cache is created there are rare occasions where it would still not allow you to go on Offline mode. This is due to quitting Steam while it's still refreshing the whole cache for content updates and downloads.

•When the Internet connection is dropped or selective networks are blocked in your connection while the computer is connected to a host (or in a network), Steam will try its best to use the network to connect to the Steam network servers. This most of the time allows users to use Offline Mode, but it takes time to get that prompt. This is why on some restrictive networks like university or workplace Internets Steam takes longer to launch. If you don't like it and you don't need that connection simply disconnect from the network.

•There is a way to play Offline Mode without having the auth cache. It's to force Steam to boot on Offline Mode. You can easily do this by going into the Steam installation folder (where your Steam client, "steam.exe" is located), and creating a file named, "steam.cfg" with contents of:

    BootStrapperInhibitAll=enable ForceOfflineMode=enable

Note that by default Windows computer hides extensions of files so if this method does not work it is likely that the file is named as, "steam.cfg.txt". You can easily fix this by going into any explorer window (a folder or such), Tools (by pressing Alt if you can't see it at the top) -> Folder options -> View tab and unchecking the item, "hide extensions for known file types". This will reveal the extensions of your files. If you don't like it, you can change it back any time after you confirm the extension of that configuration file for Steam.

So in the end, everyone is correct. They have reasons to complain about the feature and a lot of the complaints are valid.

EDIT: I FORGOT TO ADD THIS!!

•Some of the Steam games REQUIRE you to launch it at least once when you have the connection to the Internet. This is NOT a part of Steam feature, but the developer's own in the game. I'm pretty sure you can find the list with a little bit of a research. I know at least one that requires this. It's the "Titan Quest" series.

Ah okay, thanks for the information! It's still a pain in the ass to me. One mark against PC versions of games (where they are normally superior in my opinion to console games).

Don't often play 4X Space games but just shopping and saw one called Armada 2526 - looked interesting. Anyone know it? Any good? Or anything much better?

So it looks like Total War: Rome 2 is a thing.
The light that once I thought compassion still casting shadows in your action
The words you shared were cold transactions that bring me to curse what you've done
When you're up there absorbed in greatness with such success you've grown complacent
I hope you scorch your many faces when you fly too close to the sun

You all should be well aware of it by now, but the Steam summer sale started today.
