Thread: What game are you playing now?

  1. #2161
Steam is having a sale. Portal 2 is only 5 dollars at the moment. I've played Diablo 3, it's a neat game, I just feel it has too much grinding though. I get the builds i know different viable ways to beat the game on inferno, it just becomes a gear farm, it can be frustrating. That said it's a decent game, especially if you have friends ot play with.

What makes you assume we all lurk on the Steam Store?

    Any good bargains?

I don't think there was a single game or tech oriented news source that didn't mention the Steam sale, either in an article on its own or as part of their crowd sourcing push.

Hell, even Geico and Gamestop put out PR for it.

They have their daily deals same as past sales and now they have flash sales, which general last for ~8 hours.

Current list of heavily discounted games not being advertised.

It will be my first Total War game, and I'm overjoyed as they've said they'll spend the most money on it ever and Rome is my favorite empire from the past (Djengis Khan's Mongolia in second).
Tomorrow is like an empty canvas that extends endlessly, what should I sketch on it?

Just wait until you play for a few days and realize how awful the AI is in every aspect of the game.

Never heard of Geico, only heard of Gamestop from Americans. Either way though, kind of busy working IRL so not reading "game or tech orientied new sources".

Anything important generally finds its way to the dead forum, lot easier to keep up with and get rid of the dross. How many minutes a day does it take to keep up with this thread v Reddit?

keeping up isn't how I would describe my surfing, but content wise I'd say it balances out, when it the last time someone else posted news in this thread? I wonder if I can get Klout to add that to my rating.

Well Dungeonbowl is fun. For those that played Blood Bowl its a wackier magical version of that, with mixed-race teams playing in a dungeon, where the ball is hidden in one of six chests (the others explode) and warp spots throughout the dungeon (but you don't know which one you'll come out of, and can get lost in transit) - no turn limit or halfs, whoever gets the first Touchdown wins.

The problem with the PC game is that its Online Only (could have been made clearer before buying it), but currently there's so few people playing the game I've struggled to find games with the matchmaking system.

The other problem is that there is absolutely zero in-game tutorial or explanation of the rules. Go straight into playing the game, which is a bit awkward as the rules are quite different to the original Blood Bowl rules. Which meant my first game I just tried to play as well as I could with my 6 (rather than normal 11) players on the pitch, without realising that every turn you're allowed to warp in a new player onto the pitch. Somehow managed to wrangle a win out of it though.

Found the rules on Google (and turns out they're in the games folder) and just played second game against quite an experienced team (mine was at quite a disadvantage but we were the only two players looking for a game). The handicap system worked well at balancing out the difference, and had a load of fun in it. Bit of luck from Nuffle gave victory.

Overall the game looks like its been thrown together on the cheap from the original - it works well, but no AI or in-game explanations - but its a load of fun once you get over that.

on every game page there is green text that says if its single or multiplayer, but yeah the multiplayer label could be expanded a bit more.

    Some Steam questions:

1: Is there any form of limit to how often you can install/uninstall games?
2: If you uninstall a game, what happens to Saved Games?
3: Got Steam installed on my PC and Laptop, is it possible to get it to Sync Saved Games across them both?

    1. Steam DRM does not limit the number of installs, however some games come with extra DRM from the publisher. If thats the case the store page would say what it is (above the ESRB rating).

    2. If its not a cloud based game, gone I believe.

    3. If the game supports cloud saves (sort your library as a list (top right of program)). Steam does this for you as long as its activated. 99% of the games come with it turned on, if its not working correctly click the title in your library and click properties. If the game supports cloud saving it will be one of those tabs. The store page will also say Steam Cloud in green text. Pubslishers still haven't settled on one spot for game saves, so if your game doesn't support cloud saves check the forums for that game.

The cloud image? I've got 1 installed game (Shogun II, 2 more games uninstalled) with a cloud icon, but there's a question mark on the left of the icon? Any idea what that means? The 2 uninstalled games don't have that question mark there just a cloud.

The rest don't have any icons.

Meh, didn't plan to buy anything but I haven't played GTAIV yet and it IS pretty cheap now.. Is the game worth it?

Also, if you buy a package that includes a game you already have (e.g. if I get the complete GTA package, I already have San Andreas), can I give one of the copies away?

No cloud means no auto save sharing. Don't know about the question mark. I'll have to check my steam program after work.

GTA IV can look amazing with the right mods. I think people get more milage out of Saints Row 3, but GTA IV with visual mods is good.

Most of the time you won't get a giftable copy, but some publishers do allow it. Add the package to your cart, it should give you a warning when you view your cart before checkout.

Thanks. I'll be playing for the game, more than the graphics, by the way - my laptop won't be able to handle excellent graphics anyway

To me GTA style games make more sense on a console if you have one. Personal preference though of couse.

Oh, and buying a console for one game would drive the price up a bit

Indeed, that's why I said if you already have a console.
