In the future, the Berlin wall will be a mile high, and made of steel. You too will be made to crawl, to lick children's blood from jackboots. There will be no creativity, only productivity. Instead of love there will be fear and distrust, instead of surrender there will be submission. Contact will be replaced with isolation, and joy with shame. Hope will cease to exist as a concept. The Earth will be covered with steel and concrete. There will be an electronic policeman in every head. Your children will be born in chains, live only to serve, and die in anguish and ignorance.
The universe we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is, at bottom, no design, no purpose, no evil, no good, nothing but blind, pitiless indifference.

    That is bloody brilliant.
I could have had class. I could have been a contender.
I could have been somebody. Instead of a bum
    Which is what I am

    I aim at the stars
    But sometimes I hit London

    Damn that's cool.
The light that once I thought compassion still casting shadows in your action
The words you shared were cold transactions that bring me to curse what you've done
When you're up there absorbed in greatness with such success you've grown complacent
I hope you scorch your many faces when you fly too close to the sun

Sucks that it appears the WalMart walk out failed, but hell, Forza Horizon for $15? Thank you kindly.

Apple store had a 'black friday' rebate of a whopping €41 on iPads. That's a full €9 less than the rebate I can get with points at Dixon's on the same iPad. I'm happy to know I can procastinate a bit more on a present
    Congratulations America

Had been rather annoyed that no one was discounting the original PSP. Buy today Amazon offered the Assassins Creed Vita for $179.99 plus they are throwing in All Star Battle Royale, 3 months of PS+, and a $10 coupon for Assassins Creed 3. That's more than enough to convince me to move on up.

Fine, this made me smile today

UK education sixth in global ranking

The UK's education system is ranked sixth best in the developed world, according to a global league table published by education firm Pearson.
The first and second places are taken by Finland and South Korea.

The rankings combine international test results and data such as graduation rates between 2006 and 2010.
Sir Michael Barber, Pearson's chief education adviser, says successful countries give teachers a high status and have a "culture" of education.

International comparisons in education have become increasingly significant - and this latest league table is based upon a series of global test results combined with measures of education systems, such as how many people go on to university.

This composite picture puts the UK in a stronger position than the influential Pisa tests from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) - which is also one of the tests included in this ranking.

The weightings for the rankings have been produced for Pearson by the Economist Intelligence Unit.
    Global competition

The two education superpowers - Finland and South Korea - are followed by three other high-performing Asian education systems - Hong Kong, Japan and Singapore.

Aww, 7th! Though over here, "successful countries give teachers a high status and have a "culture" of education" isn't exactly the case - especially teaching younger kids isn't held in very high regard.

Making me happy, because I like working on this kind of stuff and I like working with deadlines - I have three days to put together, together with 'my' director, a proposal for filming a short story, which will give us the rights, €5000, and a guaranteed release (okay, only at two cinemas probably, but that's a good start, better than nothing!). I'll mostly be doing finances for now, and I think the fact that this particular short story is written by a rather famous Dutch comedian (for the Dutchies here: Freek de Jonge), combined with the fact it is set in part in our home town in the sixties, that crowdfunding should be a good option, and perhaps a subsidy from the local government (it will be city promotion, we like tourism here so any promotion is welcome), and local sponsoring since there is a guaranteed release for a local audience which makes it interesting for them.
Keep on keepin' the beat alive!

    Keep reading:

White says that the warp drive could be powered by a mass that's even less than that of the Voyager 1 spacecraft.

That's a significant change in calculations to say the least. The reduction in mass from a Jupiter-sized planet to an object that weighs a mere 1,600 pounds has completely reset White's sense of plausibility — and NASA's.
Unfortunately, that's a mass of exotic matter he's talking about.

Oh ok, makes more sense, considering everyone here goes to University to get mickey mouse degrees in everything from Surfing Studies to Golf Management ...

  20. #4010
There's university and there's university. Attending for the sake of it achieves nothing.

Quite frankly so many leave school in the UK with no understanding of basic spelling or grammar whatsoever, its embarrassing at times.

Caring NYPD officer is internet hit

A police officer in New York has become an internet hit after a photograph of him buying a homeless man a pair of boots was posted on the social networking site Facebook.

Officer Lawrence DePrimo, 25, noticed the shoe-less man in Times Square and bought him a pair of boots with his own money.

The act was caught on film by a tourist and posted online, where it has received thousands of comments.

guy is shoeless again, finding conflicting stories that he either sold the shoes or hide them because of how much they are worth. He is also pissed that he didn't any of the pie for having his picture spread without his permission.

I'm feeling a bit happy tonight, and not just because of a local vineyard Pinot Gris.

The exterior house painting is coming along nicely now, finally tackling the soffits and gutters. New paint makes everything look fresh and clean. I think the two grey colors will look great as contrast to each other, and against winter snow white.

Spent a couple of hours today with the guy from Andersen, measuring for replacement sliding doors and picking hardware. That made me happy.

Hard to believe it's just 20 days to Christmas when the heat is off and windows open.

Pinot Gris. Don't come across it very often, but I always buy when I do. Yummy.

Snow has hit London this morning for the first time of the season.

The long-term homeless are usually homeless for a reason, and it's not because they're nice, fully-functioning adults.
Hope is the denial of reality
