Thread: Great story!

    Default Great story!

    http://www.wxyz.com/dpp/news/region/...,-kills-robber

DETROIT (WXYZ) - A Detroit pizza delivery man turned the tables on three would be crooks Sunday night.
The driver for Papa’s Pizza shot and killed one of the men who attempted to ambush and rob him around 10 o’clock. The address provided was a vacant home on the 20000 block of McCormick on Detroit’s east side, one block from the border of Harper Woods.
A neighbor, who did not wish to be identified, said she heard “4, 5, 6 shots.” Once she mustered up the courage to look out her window, she said she saw a man holding a gun and talking on his cell phone. She also noticed what she described as a “lump” on the ground. She learned later that was the body of the one of the suspects and the man with the gun was the pizza delivery man.
The manager at the pizza shop told Action News his employee has a concealed weapons permit along with many of his other drivers. He was not hurt but was shaken up over the incident, according to the manager.
Harper Woods police responded to the 911 emergency calls along with Detroit Police. A Harper Woods Police sergeant apprehended and detained two men who were running from the area of the attempted holdup. They were later turned over to Detroit Police. The adult males are both residents of Harper Woods.
Police have yet to identify the man who was killed by the pizza delivery man. Their investigation is continuing.

Another case of justice by gun. The only sad part is the two other accomplices didn't also die.

From an RPG viewpoint, would you be a forest, frost, or cave troll?

@Lewk -- I vote we treat you like Katz and limit your musings to a single thread.

I hope the other two robbers get charged with murder.

Leave it to Lewk to enjoy death-by-gun, instead of citing stories like this http://finance.yahoo.com/news/one-pi...210646020.html as part of the gun debate.

This is no different then someone posting a thread about Republicans doing a bad thing because they want to paint Republicans in a bad light. My purpose is to point out that a criminal is dead. A gun made the difference.

Vigilantism is your preferred method of crime control. It's a crappy way to defend the 2nd Amendment.

  9. #9
You might want to look up the definition of vigilantism. This was most likely self-defense.

There are stories of pizza delivery men getting attacked in the not so nice part of town here at least once a month. It wouldn't hurt to put some fear of God into these thugs.

Lewk should look up the definition of then. Oh wait, he probably already has and uses it incorrectly to purposely troll us. Like I said, limit his musings to a single thread.

    I call them doucebags too.

But it does say a lot that GGT equates self defense to being a vigilante.

Before we ban guns maybe we should ban cars since they are FAR more deadlier.

To Loki and Veldan: I'm not equating self-defense with vigilantism (or commenting on this specific story). Just noting Lewk's penchant for using guns first, instead of other security measures to prevent or treat crime. He'd rather bypass police and our court system in almost every scenario he posts. Plus his twisted delight in people getting shot and dying....and calling that justice.

The police and the courts aren't of much use to you at the moment that you're being attacked.

Overall - are you happy or sad when you learn a citizen has successfully defended themselves from the criminal threat using lethal force? On the whole I'm pretty positive about it.

*The person who acted in self defense is safe (this is the most important part)
*The criminal can no longer harm other people (most criminals don't just do one crime)
*The news about a criminal dying during a crime acts as a deterrent to other would be criminals

On the negative side yes someone did die (they deserved to but nonetheless death is a tragedy).

I get the feeling though you view the entire event as being horrible. I think you would rather have the victim be robbed and the criminal get away then have victim defend themselves and the criminal die.

Lewk, celebrating the death of an aggressor is ghoulish. I look at the fact the intended victim is fine, and I am indifferent to the aggressor's current status.

If you're concerned about safety and self-defense as the most important part, then don't fight taxes that fund adequate-to-excellent
    *public infrastructure (including street lights)
    *public police
    *public education

Your view on criminal recidivism needs some factual data back-up, and a reality check. Our jails and prisons are meant to include some form of rehabilitation, not just act as a deterrent to crime (or turn the incarcerated *into* repeat offenders). Our social development programs are meant to prevent criminality and desperation. Our public police and public prosecutors/defenders rely on public funding. All those things mean some form of taxation...which you're also opposed to. How convenient?

On the negative side yes someone did die (they deserved to but nonetheless death is a tragedy).
Hypocrite. On one hand you want to act as judge and jury....while denying to Caesar what is justly due. Jesus weeps.

  23. #23
Judges and juries get to decide whether the killing in question was in self-defense...So the person doing the shooting is hardly the judge, jury, and executioner.

No, please re-read what I posted. The attacker is dead, I am ambivalent to that, in that I don't rejoice in his death, neither do I weep. I'm glad that the intended victim manged to defend himself.

Getting the criminal permanently off the street is going to help much more than one person. Many of these people commit hundreds if not thousands of crimes. I read an interview with some burglar who admitted to 1,000 burglaries, though he was only in jail for 2 of them.

Lethal shooters become judge, jury and executioner since they eliminate the defendant from legal proceedings. That's a huge flaw in how SYG and Castle doctrine laws are written and adjudicated. Feel threatened? Just shoot-to-kill. Don't worry about forensic evidence.

Contrary to TV shows that make criminal justice look like Quincy, MD or Law and Order SVU....the truth is that most public police, detectives, pathologists, criminologists, and attorneys are woefully underfunded.

Why are you arguing with me when we agree? I'm just not trumpeting the death. I'm okay with it, just not throwing a parade about it.
