    Anyone watching Masters of Sex?

Michael Sheen as Dr Masters, the first pioneering scientist to actually do any solid research into human sexual response, in the 1950s.

Some excellent, solid performances, and genuinely gripping storyline. It's a good one.

Okay, Almost Human seems to be more Lethal Weapon meets Deus Ex.

They also seem to have taken some cues from Judge Dredd:

Detective Kennex surrounded by kids visiting the precinct: "Okay, who wants to see what happens to bad guys?"
    Kids: "Me, me, me!"
Dorian: "Not sure that's a good idea..."
Kennex, showing a vid pad around: "... and here's the guy, his arm blown straight off..."
When the stars threw down their spears
And watered heaven with their tears:
Did he smile his work to see?
Did he who made the lamb make thee?

The 50th anniversary episode of Doctor Who was astounding. I loved the inclusion of the Doctor from his time during the Time War. It was pretty awesome to prevent the issue of spoilers by having it be internationally simulcast for the first showing.

Yeah, it was fantastic, we enjoyed it.

The Day of the Doctor was broadcast in 94 countries at the same time as it aired on BBC One on Saturday night - earning it a Guinness World Record as "the world's largest ever simulcast of a TV drama".

    Didn't catch it myself though.

Yeah, love it to be honest. Strange to imagine that that way of life is only such a short while ago.
    Congratulations America

On the other hand, maybe the should have a 4 maybe 5 season limit on all series. Hardly a single one that doesn't become stale after the 4th season, if not the 3rd.
    Congratulations America

I usually find that the shows I enjoy really get into their groove around season 3.

Exception: Firefly. Nailed it right away. And the douchebags at Fox ruined it for us.

I often start hating shows around the third season but fortunately they occasionally pick up again after a few misguided attempts at shaking things up and letting idiots write the scripts.

I'm the same as Veldan. I almost never like shows when they first start, and it isn't until towards the end of the first season or the second that I start actually liking them.

Exception: Firefly. It still hurts, after all these years.

Turner Classic Movie channel can be habit-forming. No commercial breaks, but interesting stories or RKO movie shorts during 15 minute breaks between shows. I watched 3 movies in a row the other night, including one called The Women--a bit strange and choppy, but had a great cast of women who became big stars later on. I didn't realize until the next day...but not one man was in that movie.

Every Wednesday in December highlights Fred Astaire movies, and it's mesmerizing to watch him dance.

I decided to start watching Revolution (Elizabeth Mitchell ) - it reminds me very much of a not marvelous scifi book a friend talked me into reading once, but it's actually not bad. Not totally sold on the youngish actress playing Charlie, but I'm early in the series yet.

I resisted for the longest time, but finally caved and started watching Supernatural on Netflix. Just a few episodes in I was hooked but skipped from near the end of Season 1 to season 4 to get to the good stuff with Castiel and his brethren. Season 4 was just plain awesome, with a great deal of drama and pretty good choices wrt both plot and character development--not to mention a lot of fun and humor--but the ending was a bit meh and I'm kinda ambivalent about the first few eps of season 5 due to some of the plotting as well as the way the writers are suddenly fumbling a little with Castiel.

To those of you who've followed--and enjoyed!--this show: should I slog on through this season or skip ahead to some other season?

Seasons 3, 4, and 5 were the best seasons. The first 5 seasons make up the original story that the creators intended to tell. No, do not skip ahead - the fifth season was fantastic and the series never again hits those heights.

I loved the 4th season the best, season 5 was very good but had a little too much whining and constipation for my taste, I never dug Lucifer and the finale (esp. Chuck's narration) was very meh for me. I already feel a little meh about season 6

So, Helix. What do you think?

Also, I'm wondering whether it wouldn't be better to build such isolation labs in the desert - the light and heat should get rid of any agents much better than the cold in Antarctica

Okay, so Helix again. What on Earth are those writers thinking?

So we have a biolab that has been built at the end of the Earth for protection. We have scientists, presumably trained on containment measures. After all, they're in a biolab.

And what's the first thing they all do when in isolation, due to an agressive virus? Try to escape, be antagonistic, try to kill everyone and so on and so forth.

Absolutely unbelievable. Those are supposed to be intelligent guys? Seriously?

And then we have a scientist who chooses this moment to remember the Hippocratic oath. Let's recap: We have a patient with an unknow disease, very much in pain and no know treatment. And this moron chooses to trot out the old "But that's unethical!" card upon using an experimental treatment.

Good lord. Everyone in this show seems to have been lobotomized.

... with her back to the door, in a facility where a superstrong infected runs around.

Or them standing around: "Why did he cut off his hand?" Well, gee, might have something to do with the RFID chip in all their hands.

Their "Isolation Unit" was pretty bad, too. And coming up with the virus detector test in one day? They didn't take long to introduce the romantic triangle element, or a "shower scene". I figured they gave up on the science part of sci-fi, and it's mostly a blood-and-guts/mystery thriller trying to ride the recent zombie and vampire craze.

So I'm hearing claims that Tomorrow People got good. Anyone able to confirm/deny? I watched the first half dozen episodes or so before deciding that even Mark Pellegrino couldn't save it from its own poorly thought out plots and clichéd writing.

I'm afraid that I didn't even last through the first episode.

Always this clichéd "Oh my father left me, I will not ever listen to anything he says again!" or "I've just been shown the 'impossible' and will still not believe that it works anyway!"

I mean, this guy is able to get himself out of any kind of restraint (albeit unconsciously) and, when given an explanation, goes: "Naw, can't be that easy!"

Some writers obviously insist on having really, really dumb "heroes".

Since I only watched until they got to this underground cave, I'll hazard a guess as to how the rest of the episode proceeds:
Guy actively denies any of it, tries to go back to his old life, gets captured by the baddies, has to be rescued and someone gets hurt/killed.

Or did they actually divert from this kind of plot?

Some other guy got captured by the baddies, needed to be rescued, and protagonist guy manifested new superpowers nobody's seen before in the rescue. Then protagonist guy decided to go 'undercover' by joining the baddies at the end.

Baddies are 'for the lulz' mustache-twirling kind of evil, and somehow protagonist guy fools them all throughout the episodes I've seen. Plots have been very predictable, and tend to rely a bit too heavily on passing around the idiot ball.

It's possible that it has gotten good, though. I didn't like the first bunch of episodes from most of the series I wound up loving.

Got Series 1 on Blu-Ray, but haven't started yet. Mainly on account of not having a Blu-Ray player. Till now.

Just finished watching it last week. Kevin Spacey is great.

We all like to think that our politicians are smarter and more devious than they are. Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately), it's rarely true. Still makes it entertaining to pretend.
