Just went to tell the boys to take a shower, they asked to wait till they were finished.
I looked at the game they were playing...
I asked if they were fighting an Ender Dragon, they said yes.
I said 'Carry on.'

Finally replacing my 680 video card. Order a 970 from amazon.

Got my video card today, the one benefit to paying amazon tax, next day delivery with prime
Shadow of Morder on triple monitors went from 20.44/12.2 (avg/min) to 37.94/29.92 fps. Not a bad upgrade for a sub $300 purchase that came with The Witcher 3 and the next Batman game.

I had a very nice, sweet mother's day weekend with my sons. The best part was having them together under one roof, and watching how they've modified their brotherly behaviors over time.

Yesterday I didn't go into work because they were moving my team's offices. We were combined with another team, and today is our first day working in the same location. To celebrate the mixing of our two teams, I decided to put out a thematically appropriate gift. I bought skittles, m&ms, reese's pieces, peanut butter m&ms, and crunchy m&ms. I then placed them in one bowl, and set the bowl out for everyone.
I have never seen people get so angry over free candy.
Were there delicious salty tears or just rage?
We're stuck in a bloody snowglobe.
Mostly just rage. Lots of cursing. One person laughing at everyone else because she says "I look at what I'm eating before I stick it in my mouth!"
That's the one you want to make friends with, Wraithy.

At least you didn't offer them the Gummy Bears from Hell.
When the stars threw down their spears
And watered heaven with their tears:
Did he smile his work to see?
Did he who made the lamb make thee?
Saving that for my last day on the job, because I'm pretty sure I won't be allowed back after.
You're one truly evil sonuvabitch
Not allowed back? You can thank the Lord if they don't send assassins after you.

The Harry Potter area at Universal sells Every Flavor Jelly Beans. Wife doesn't allow me in that store anymore after I mixed a box of them into her class' 5lb bag of boring flavors.

Disney On Ice for tomorrow has thankfully not been cancelled or moved. There was a risk of that happening thanks to the Lightning hockey team not sucking this year. But on top of that we just won 4 more tickets for Friday's showing, so thats a couple hundred bucks we will likely pocket.![]()

Weekend
Congratulations America
This talk of candy reminds me of shots of vodka... that had a red pepper soak in it for a while. Unexpected burning throat!
Drummer of my band was selected for auditioning at the conservatorium in Rotterdam so we'll be playing there in two weeks!

Ooh, yay, Flixy. Get some friend to record it so I can watch.

So we get to move in earlier than expected, namely next weekthe bank raised our rate at the last minute to 1.6% fixed for 3 years, no doubt partly because they knew we didn't have time to negotiate or shop around any longer. Still do relieved and excited to get to sleep in place that's our own again. So much to plan and prep on short notice though.

It is, I just don't like being screwed by shrewd bank-peopleI'm a married man after all
"One day, we shall die. All the other days, we shall live."
Well being a shrewd bank-person, that's a good rate
~
And ...
Conflicted, but mostly happy movements at my shrewd bank-people workplace.
Huge restructure of staff in my area of the bank, which number around 7,000 globally within the department.
The Europe/Middle East/Africa regional team I've been in since Jan 2014 is amalgamating into a regional office outside of the Global HQ in London, and concentrating on regional platforms and implementations, largely legacy. 6 of us who are based in London are obviously not relocating.
Opportunity for myself and my small team of specialists therefore to move into the Global Team who are based in London, and headed by a charismatic and progressive dude from NY State. This is many kinds of awesome; we'll be the cutting edge in our area, progressing new industry platforms and software systems, setting the standards for the bank globally, for all regional offices in US/UK/EU/ME/Africa/Asia Pac./Lat Am to follow.
And now the conflict. Within this Global Team, there are 5 or so sub-divisions.
One stream, my current manager, who is excellent and I really like working for, is heading up, covering some areas I like, and some I don't.
A second stream, another member of my team with whom I work with really well is joining, to work on a huge and long-term global project with a slated Q1 2017 implementation. I've spent about 30% of my time over the last 6 months on this project, so wouldn't mind taking it on full time. Team lead for the project is NY based though, so not ideal.
Third stream is the one that I'm leaning toward. Headed up by an unknown (to me) person. This is more of a specialist unit, providing a roving, consultative function, implementing global solutions in smaller and more specialised areas. I've really enjoyed the last 8 weeks of my work, where I've been involved heavily in one such small global platform, and I'd like to continue this kind of work. Always new and challenging.
It's a nice position to be in, this, being able to choose the specifics of what I work on, but god I'm struggling to decide.
As I reach for a peach
Slide a rind down behind
the sofa in San Tropez
Breaking a stick with a brick on the sand
Riding a wave in the wake of an old Sedan
Sleeping alone in the drone of the darkness
Scratched by the sand that fell from our love
Deep in my dreams and I still hear her calling
If you're alone I'll come home
Backwards and home bound
The pigeon the dove
Gone with the wind and the rain on an airplane
Owning a home with no silver spoon
I'm drinking champagne like a big tycoon
Sooner than wait for a break in the weather
I'll gather my far flung thoughts together
Speeding away on a wind to a new day
If your alone I'll come home
And I pause for a while
By a country style
And listen to things they say
Digging for gold in the hoe in my hand
Hoping they'll take a look at the way things stand
And you're leading me down to the place by the sea
I hear your soft voice calling to me
Making a date for later by phone
if you're alone I'll come home
The tunnel under the ghent-terneuzen canal was opened todayno more waiting for the bridge (which was open 23 times a day for about 20 minutes each time..). And in a nice twist the king and queen who visited to open it found out how annoying that can be when the bridge at sas van Gent they were supposed to use was defective and they had to travel through belgium
After the westerschelde tunnel this means i can now go to my parents without either going through belgium, or using ferries and bridges!
And turns out the bridge next to the new tunnel was the biggest swing bridge when it was built which is kinda cool.

It is strange that you aren't part of Belgium in the first place. But the border between Belgium and the Netherlands is one of the strangest of the world. There are things light enclaves inside of exclaves.
"Wer Visionen hat, sollte zum Arzt gehen." - Helmut Schmidt
It makes me 'happy' to know that so many European countries can share borders and get along in ways that US states can't or don't.![]()
What?
"Wer Visionen hat, sollte zum Arzt gehen." - Helmut Schmidt
Well, the enclave exclave thing is only one town I think (and not near me) but is very odd yes. Zeeuws vlaanderen is Dutch because of the way the borders were during the 80 years war, and I assume they kept it because it's very strategic as it controls access to the port of Antwerp (and Ghent). But IIRC the Belgians have claimed it at least once.
And what ways would that be? I mean yes there cooperation but it's not like there's never disputes etc. And to be completely fair the two parts of Belgium don't even get along well at all and have serious problems in working together.

Not to speak about such things as the Balkans, Transnistria, and Ukraine.
