Out on tuesday.
Reviews have been very disappointing on release.
Clunky design, crashes on multiplayer, poor Hero customisation options, dreadful combat sounds, and nowhere near enough testing & QA before release.
At £40 I won't be going near it.
Disappointing to hear. HoMM 3 & 4 were two of my favourite games. Never finished 5 and got and never installed 6 as a Christmas Present (I've physically lost the case it was in actually), it's a series I like the idea behind and it'd be fun to play an upto date version of it but but the games got a bit samey to me.
From what I've read, the game is barely in beta, which is pretty consistent with Ubisoft's approach. If you are going to buy it, wait at least half a year for the major problems to be patched up.
Edit: how shameless are most game reviewers? It's almost inevitable that any game released by a major studio gets good reviews, regardless of how awful it is and how bugged it is. Have some shame, people.

I hate buggy games.![]()
The user reviews and the critics reviews aren't too far off.

Though honestly anything under an 80 means the game is awful unless you absolutely LOVE the concept. No time for sub par crap.
One negative review by critics; ~40% negative reviews by public. I don't really trust the user score when the sample is low. Too much opportunity for the developers to game the system.

On steam the negatives outweigh the positives 2 to 1, and not a single "helpful" review is positive.
"In a field where an overlooked bug could cost millions, you want people who will speak their minds, even if they’re sometimes obnoxious about it."
And another thing where they botched the launch.

When the stars threw down their spears
And watered heaven with their tears:
Did he smile his work to see?
Did he who made the lamb make thee?
The top reviews on Steam are pretty damning about every aspect of gameplay.

I can only guess that their business model is paying Russian programmers the Russian minimum wage and knowing that there are enough existing HoMM fans to allow them to turn a profit. And as game quality decreases, so does Ubisoft's spending on future iterations of the game, since they know each game will make less than the previous one.
