Thread: RIP Jo Cox MP

    Default RIP Jo Cox MP

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-36550304

    Stabbed and shot. Horrific.

First MP murdered in 26 years (though there's been close calls in the meantime). Potentially if this is a mentally ill act the first sitting MP murdered for non-political reasons since the 1700's.

Thoughts with her young family and friends.

Some reports are saying the guy yelled Britain First. Thats apparently important.

    Sad news

Suspect is indeed known to suffer from psychiatric problems but psychiatric problems don't necessarily exclude political influences.

Britain First is a group of scumbags.

How do you know it was for 'non-political' reasons ?
    Congratulations America

He doesn't, he said that if it were non-political then it would be the first such murder of a sitting MP since the 1700s.

Yeah, I see now. Still don't know why he would write that though. Seems to me that they're not releasing any information about the attacker or his motives.
    Congratulations America

His info is out there. Mentally ill. Never held a full-time job. No apparent interest in politics.

    RIP

There are conflicting reports on whether she intervened in a scuffle or was deliberately targeted, and whether or not the murderer shouted 'Britain first!'. You'd hope that people would refrain from speculating until more is known, but apparently that's not how we roll.

I don't but it looks possible, as the man they've arrested was mentally disturbed.

It's also the first female MP murdered.

    Hardly mutually exclusive.

Of course. I would not want to speculate.

I'm hearing reports he's connected to some group of far right shitstains or other, so very much leaning towards politically motivated.

I've heard all sorts of reports, from that to that Jo wasn't even the target and intervened and got killed for it, to other stories. We don't know. Not seen much in the way of evidence though except that the arrested guy is definitely mentally ill (which doesn't preclude anything else).

Maybe one of his opponents once ran a campaign add with some kind of targeting sign on it and that's what set off the shooter. That would make it the Torie's fault.

    a) "her"
    b) There's not a lot of things I'd put past the Tories, but that's one of them

Actually a lot of people like to brand someone as mentally ill based on the fact they are willing to kill. This guy may be mentally ill but without actual scientific proof of mental illness (actual brain scans) we shouldn't jump to that conclusion. Someone people are just evil - they aren't mentally ill, they are just evil.

He's been getting mental health treatment for decades.

Just goes to show how cunning he is, he had those bleeding-heart liberals fooled all those years.

Why is he crazy for wanting British independence and millions of voters not? With the leader of the out campaign saying you're up against Hitler's dream of a European Reich then it is only a small step to think your country is worth armed resistence.
    Congratulations America

I was making a general point - I haven't looked at the guy's history. It seems like certain folks though seem to think that any sort of lone wolf attacks are always due to mental illness.

Is what he said literally. Have fun spending the rest of your sunday proving how the exact order of the letters does not imply he's equating the EU to another go at Hitler's dream. Let me give you a starter; he mentions Napoleon and mentions other means. So that must mean he's not implying it at all.
    Congratulations America

    ooooh, let me try:
