UK Labour Party crisis

Almost overriding the media coverage now of Brexit is the unprecedented crisis that has engulfed the opposition following the vote.

Less than a year ago against all odds the far left socialist Jeremy Corbyn was elected leader. Over the weekend virtually the entire Shadow Cabinet resigned, to the point that Corbyn has six vacant Shadow Cabinet posts as he is unable to find anyone to fill them. Now he's lost a Vote of No Confidence by 172 votes to 40 and he's still not stepping down.

It's even reached the point where the SNP are applying to formally become named as the Official Opposition as they not only control more MPs (54 out of 650) than Corbyn's 40 MPs, but that Corbyn's failure to have a Shadow Cabinet means that the Labour Party fails a test that the Official Opposition must be "prepared to assume power".

It's a good job nothing else of note is happening in British politics and there's no requirement to have a competent opposition party to hold the government to account right now!

With no government or opposition, maybe you should opt for direct rule from Brussels.

Brexit should be an opportunity for the Opposition to be all over the Government, lambasting them for holding the referendum in the first place, and for the mess that has resulted.

Instead we get Corbyn being a stubborn idiot and the rest of his party shouting at him to fuck off elsewhere.

Indeed that is the nub of the problem, there is simply no agreement between any of the Labour leadership, the Labour MPs, the Labour members or the Labour voters as to what they stand for.
