How often has a white officer shooting an innocent white man been caught on camera?
Last night as I lay in bed, looking up at the stars, I thought, “Where the hell is my ceiling?"
How many of the anti-black crowd (pardon the label, but it seems accurate) here actually read about this topic? Talked to a black man? Taken seriously anything written by a black man? The number of blacks killed by the police is a red herring. The real issue is the fact that blacks (especially men) regularly get mistreated by the police. Read what black cops, doctors, lawyers, academics, etc. experience on a day-to-day basis. Multiply that by 100 for blacks living in projects. There's indisputable evidence that blacks get targeted more by police, even in areas where they're no more likely to be engaging in crime than whites (i.e. traffic stops: blacks get pulled over at a far higher rate, while whites are more likely to have drugs on them). Your average black man has experienced dozens of negative interactions with the police, many of them entailing the excessive use of force. Your average black man also knows dozens of other black men who've experienced the same. So before you spout your racist bullshit, actually read about the scale of the problem. This isn't a question of a handful of black men being killed; it's a question of a vast majority of black men being profiled and mistreated by the police on a regular basis.

Would be interesting to see if middle class black men are as often victims of police brutality as middle class white men. Wouldn t surprise me a bit if they relatively have it worse for being uppity niggers. (And yes I know the weight of that word. Still I decided to use it, because it expresses exactly what goes on.)
Congratulations America
"Clearly when I'm at work dressed in my white coat the reactions I get with individuals and the officers I deal with on a daily basis is much different to what I would get outside the hospital in regular clothes and my fear and mild inherent distrust in law enforcement, that goes back to my own personal experiences that I've had in my own personal life as well as hearing the stories from friends and family that look like me, that have had similar experiences," he said.

I have heard of that phenomenon when middle class blacks challenge police officers.

This other link was a bit worse even. A black police officer.

There are regular reports of off-duty black police officers in NYC getting profiled and assaulted.

It's almost like having a culture of consistently covering up and refusing to investigate misconduct by your own force is a terrible idea.

reading about these anecdotes is bad enough, can't understand how people can continue to be wilfully blind to these problems after investigations such as the DoJ"s report on the Ferguson, the NYPD racism trial etc.

I consider this a clean shoot but if the guy was black it would have made a bigger splash.
Eh? I'm sure racial profiling exists. The question to ask is racial profiling always wrong? The simple fact is that statistically speaking a black male is far more likely to go to prison than any other ethnicity. Some use that to say the system is racist and while it can account for *some* of it anyone with half a brain realizes there is far more going on here. Correlation exists between single parent households and the likelihood of the child leading a life of crime - guess which ethnic background has it worst?

"There is nothing more painful to me at this stage in my life than to walk down the street and hear footsteps and start thinking about robbery. Then look around and see somebody white and feel relieved. After all we have been through, just to think we can't walk down our own streets, how humiliating."
There is something very wrong with the culture of our inner cities. "Snitches get stitches" and "Pigs in a blanket, fry 'em like bacon" is pretty sick. This is what liberalism gives us. Single parent households, deadbeat dads, culture that glorifies gang violence, drug use and criminal activity. When you pound it into people's head that the world is 100% racist and that you'll never be able to make it through hard work because the deck is stacked. This is toxic and it creates a culture where crime flourishes. Police aren't stupid they realize where the crime is happening and who is doing it and then absolutely influences them. We get to the point where shit like this is a thing. http://reason.com/archives/2014/10/0...rier-for-black
Now can things be improved upon? Absolutely.
1. Legalize drugs
2. Harsher penalties for violent offenders
3. 100% body cameras
4. When actual incidents of racism (and not just profiling) occur do something about it. #3 will help with this quite a bit.
Although black people are many, many times more likely than white people to be accosted by cops, the vast majority of them are guilty of no crime. In fact, if you look at eg. the findings from the trial against the NYPD, a black person hassled by the po-po is MORE likely to be innocent-as far as we know--than a white person. Why? Because cops inappropriately target black people for this bullshit and an investigation of their reports show that much of the time they can't even justify it. And then they have the nerve to be dicks about it. Your objection is not relevant. Principally, that argument would justify constantly stopping random guys on the street and trying to determine if they've raped someone. Guys are much more likely to be rapists than women are.

To be fair to Lewk and the spirit of Dreadnaught, all this "black lives matter" stuff has certainly led to problems for people of other colours as police have been forced to resort to assaulting non-blacks in order to meet their quotas:

And here's a black Republican politician complaining about racial profiling against himself. Must be all in his head. Lewk, have you been stopped by the police 7 times in the last year? Treated rudely each time?

You mean other than all the black professionals making nearly identical claims about this sort of policing?
I usually wouldn't say this, but read the comments.

It's not like it's consistent with an overwhelming majority of research in this area...It also puts to bed the notion that "there are some bad apples". No, this is typical policing in black neighborhoods. As the black police officer wrote, most police officers are pretty malleable. If their department culture encourages this kind of behavior, they'll engage in it as well. This even applies to black/Hispanic police officers. Sure, they're not going to go around murdering unarmed men every day; they'll just demean the black men they face and resort to the use of force far too quickly. All without consequence.

Honestly, we can fill a whole forum with both anecdotal and academic evidence, the question is what you'd like to see and what you'd accept as being persuasive enough to stop wasting time and energy on this tangent.
