Taxpayers are livid about Obama using AF1 (the real deal) to stump for Clinton because they believe it's costing them $200k per hour.

Is it possible that this application of the principles of the sharing economy may instead end up saving taxpayers some money?

What do you think? Can Obama save taxpayers some money by flying around a lot in AF1 to stump for Clinton, or by letting her fly with him? Or is he just wasting $200k/hour in doing so?

Perhaps, but you may still retain the right to criticize him for using that expensive transportation method for purposes you consider to be illegitimate or inappropriate.

I doubt it. This "outrage" comes up every election from whoever the current opposition is. That also means it doesn't matter what economies might be available.

I'm not really concerned about the outrage, I'm asking if using AF1 more for such purposes would save taxpayers money compared to not using it for such purposes.

Probably not, because even if he'd fly commercial, his entourage and all the security requirements would still be the same. I imagine making arrangements per trip will be much much more expensive to the upset tax-payers than using the facilities that are actually put in place for exactly this purpose.
