We have nothing to talk about untill you notify and we don't have a problem after you have notified. Literally nothing to talk about then.

The problem wouldn't even have existed if you hadn't created it, long before your Brexit vote.
    Congratulations America

I really don't put much stock in such "surveys". Especially if they do rankings. Equally moronic: "What's the best town?", "What's the best university?" and "What's the best planet?"

Me neither but it amused me that the language in the article included the following paragraph:

“Our data captured widespread global concern for the social and geopolitical changes that cast many nations into uncertainty and turmoil,” said John Gerzema, chief executive of BAV Consulting. “The new rankings reflect people’s desire to restore some sense of order by rewarding nations they perceive as championing neutrality, stability and diplomacy.”

So Brexit Britain is a nation "championing neutrality, stability and diplomacy" and not a nation of "uncertainty and turmoil"?

In other news, the Lords were not exactly pleased again. I'm also not interested in your Comical Ali shtick, Rand. But I can see how it amused you. Small minds are easily amused.

You are Comical Ali if you think the Lords not being exactly pleased is significant. Considering the Lords is a veritable who's who of yesteryear's politicians and Brexit is a rejection of many of their live's work it should hardly be a surprised if Baron Heseltine is not pleased.

It's also tough. The amendment they passed today is farcical and will be rightly rejected by the Commons on Monday. Come Monday evening the Lords will graciously bow down to the elected chamber and this amendment will die.

No, that description refers primarily to the high ranking of Switzerland and Canada, and indirectly to Germany's lower ranking.

We'll see on Monday. And it doesn't matter if they are "yesteryear's politicians", Rand. What matters is that they do have to confirm the bill.

It does matter as the Commons is supreme. There is no way the Lords would seek to overturn a Commons majority implementing a referendum result ... and the government's own manifesto commitment it was elected upon.

If it did the Lords would create a constitutional crisis not seen since 1911 the result of which is the government would be be quite entitled to create a hundred new peers and force the bill through anyway. Which is the reason why we have the 1911 Parliament Act and the Lords has accepted it's place ever since.

Oh and the opposition parties and Crossbenchers have already pledged the "ping pong" would end on Monday with the Lords accepting whatever the Commons decides on Monday. The Lordships are just creating pressure hoping enough rebels will break cover and back these amendments.

Since when is it overturning the result of the referendum to think Brexit should not be perceived as the most radical break imaginable? If it's all so black and white why doesn't the government fall over extra funds for the NHS?
    Congratulations America

  11. #1751
The government is giving extra funding to the NHS and both the government and Vote Leave were crystal clear that leaving the EU meant leaving the Single Market and coming up with a new arrangement.

"Crystal clear"? In this very thread we have statements from the "Vote Leave" guys who emphasized exactly the opposite in regards to the single market. Comical Ali strikes again. Crystal clear, my ass.

No, we don't what? Geeze. Next up: I'm telling Rand how language, specifically his own mother tongue, works so that he can create an intellegible response. I mean, I've already downgraded from "logical and cohesive response" here.

Do I need to explain the concept of context? Are you that ignorant?

No we didn't have statements from Vote Leave guys explaining the exact opposite in regards to the Single Market. We have had from my recollection one badly edited, unsourced, undated and easily debunked attempt to claim that. But other than a debunked list we have not had that in this thread.

That's fortunate because there are no quotes from Vote Leave campaigners during the campaign saying we should stay in the Single Market for you to look up. Even if you could be bothered you wouldn't find any.

Open Britain have quite a record for disingenuously implying quotes from years ago (often taken out of context) were said during the campaign. At least this time they dated this video after their complete humiliation of a dishonest compilation late last year. I said "during the campaign" while your link says "Filmed in 2013"

The referendum was in 2013 was it?

In the campaign Boris said that it was "absolutely right" that we would leave the Single Market.

    Pfft.

Much of the discussion during the campaign focused on the post-Brexit relationship between the UK and the EU, with many proponents of Leave enthusiastically promoting models such as a Norway-style relationship through membership in EFTA or some other form of "bespoke" deal that would give the UK a high level of access to the Single Market (because you're the best at everything including buying BMWs or some such). While the shoddily crayoned economic analysis presented by the official campaign indeed called for a complete withdrawal from the single market, no-one really believed in that strategy. If more than a few people had taken that analysis seriously the UK would have remained in the EU, considering the harmful consequences that plan was predicted to have for some of the most important Leave-voters.

You might want to tell Daniel Hannan that, my dear.

Daniel Hannan: "Absolutely nobody is talking about threatening our place in the single market."

Unsurprisingly no source. Find me a single source to him saying that during the campaign. Lets see the date it was said and the words either side of what he said. Go on ...

As a few, admirable voices have been noting, during the campaign the loudest Brexiteers were at pains to stress that leaving the EU did not mean leaving the single market. “Absolutely nobody is talking about threatening our place in the single market,” said Daniel Hannan. “Only a madman would actually leave the market,” said Owen Patterson. In the spring, Farage constantly urged us to be like Norway – which in fact pays through the nose and accepts free movement of people in order to remain in the single market.

Instead you've just got a comment piece that has quoted words from a video released by Open Britain [that article actually gives Open Britain as the original source]. Except as we've already discussed above Open Britain have had issues and this is the big one, the completely dishonest and disingenuous video they released that was completely torn apart by the BBC.

Here is the original bullshit source for your claims:

Sounds clear right? Wrong, it was a pack of lies. Not only were none of the quote made during the referendum campaign, not were all but one not even from last year, but most of them were taken so out of context to imply they mean the opposite of what was said. Here is the BBC ripping apart the lies.

As Andrew Neil from the BBC said "how did you think you were going to get away with this distortion?"

Watch the ten minute video of this nonsense being ripped apart and then feel free to apologise at your leisure or continue your Comical Ali nonsense of repeating outright lies that have been torn apart already.

Seems like Scotland will have a vote on its membership of the United Kingdom in the fall of 2018.

Fantastic news. I thought Sturgeon would be too frit in the end but here we go. There'll never be a more opportune moment than this.
