C) Totally irrelevant, since the number of folks in the US military is <0.3% of the population, (not to mention that actual combat troops make up even a small fraction of that number), which means it's not exactly difficult to draw combat forces from the 75% of Americans who aren't "too fat to fight."

I'm just stuck on the image of a fat kid in combat gear, M16 in one hand, slice of pizza in the other, trying to storm a building but getting stuck in the doorway.

Plus it's not as if they don't beat folks into shape when they are inducted.
Technically, they starve you into shape.
The only thing worse than boot camp food is reduced calorie boot camp food. It's not too much of an exaggeration to say they feed you lettuce until you make weight. And not even all-you-can-eat-lettuce, either.
