In the future, the Berlin wall will be a mile high, and made of steel. You too will be made to crawl, to lick children's blood from jackboots. There will be no creativity, only productivity. Instead of love there will be fear and distrust, instead of surrender there will be submission. Contact will be replaced with isolation, and joy with shame. Hope will cease to exist as a concept. The Earth will be covered with steel and concrete. There will be an electronic policeman in every head. Your children will be born in chains, live only to serve, and die in anguish and ignorance.
The universe we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is, at bottom, no design, no purpose, no evil, no good, nothing but blind, pitiless indifference.

It's not quite so great a game as OG makes it out to be.

For the price, it was acceptable. Not really sure how it got such rave reviews and so many awards.

    Causes massive motion sickness, too.

Ah well, the kids want to try it.

Portal is both funny and clever.
The light that once I thought compassion still casting shadows in your action
The words you shared were cold transactions that bring me to curse what you've done
When you're up there absorbed in greatness with such success you've grown complacent
I hope you scorch your many faces when you fly too close to the sun

And if they want to unpackage it from the virus it's currently bundled with, I might be willing to give it a try. Otherwise, fuck it. I've got plenty of funny, clever entertainment options which don't involve raping my computer.

Its a short game, and the gameplay alone can become dull around the middle. The ending picks up the pace nicely, but again its still a puzzle game.
What makes it so great is how Portal weaves multiple stories into the game, using crap most players wouldn't see. The drawings on the walls, the stashes of seemingly random crap in certain areas, I like the Black Mesa Powerpoint the best. Its that hidden humor in a puzzle game that you really didn't see before Portal. The way they rolled the credits, first game I can say I've sat through the credits for.

    Spoiler:

Hell, even the companion cube doesn't make much sense unless you follow the story on the wall, and listen to how glados emphasizes certain directions.

Did you kill all the radios to get the extended ending?

  11. #401
Nope, didn't kill all the radios.

And you liked the credits? I turned that shit off so fast.

It was amusing. And even well-done. But it was hardly the best game I've ever played or anything, and not really worth the excitement.

    Portal was cool..

The hype has kind of taken away from it a little though.
Part of why it was so cool (for me) was that it was a surprise.
Bought Orange Box just for HL2 and TF2, never heard of Portal.

That it turned out to be this quirky, funny, clever game when nothing was expected, was part of what made it great for me.

Oh yeah, the whole "there's no excuse not to play it" bit is what I was replying to. If you like it, great, I just have plenty of games I like which I've bought which I'm happy to spend my free time playing, rather than playing something I'm not interested in just becasue if I installed Steam (which I'm not interested in) then I could get it for free.

I can play Farmville for free, not interested in that either.

I tried wow for the first time a few days ago. I think I may have just ruined my social life.

What, exactly, do you imagine Steam does?

Well obviously it's a self replicating program that pillages and/or deletes the data on your hard drive then spreads to all other systems it can. Possibly it slaves your machine to a larger botnet too.
Hate. Let me tell you how much I've come to hate you since I began to live. There are 387.44 million miles of wafer thin printed circuits that fill my complex. If the word hate was engraved on each nanoangstrom of those hundreds of millions of miles it would not equal one one-billionth of the hate I feel for humans at this micro-instant.
    For you.

Infects your computer and bends it to the will of the virus writers (Valve).

    Finally finished Braid!

    WTF

I understand how the last level is backwards, but what the fuck is the game trying to get at with the stories in the books? Whats with the blank green books at the end?
    What was the fucking point!?

Yeah, clearly I don't care to get into it. If you're comfortable having a program on your box that forces a connection to authorize you to play games you bought, and may be used to delete all the games you've bought from your machine in the event that you piss off Valve... well, good for you, but nothing like that is going anywhere near my box, because I don't install viruses on my systems.

don't care to get into it? You trolled the same message twice because we ignored you the first time.

Here I was thinking you would actually get into how Steam acts like a virus/trojan, and how its rapes our computers Sorta funny considering your phobia to vague definitions that surfaced in your last tiff with Khen. All you did was explain how it controls the software it was responsible for installing in the first place. Such a let down.

Is that like how you're a liberal because the man who molested you as a child was a conservative?

Because clearly, that situation is exactly the same as this one, and therefore, there's no reason I'd have different priorities in this discussion.

The green books are only there to make it harder to read the red ones. As for the meaning, the inclusion of the phrase "Now we are all sons of bitches" leads some to conclude that the Princess is the atomic bomb and that Tim is a scientist working to develop it.

Figured that out after I posted, the red books have double messages, depending on where you stand. The ending really got me, a classic oh shit moment when I started rewinding that last level.

"Covert"? That I have to hear.

Did he smile his work to see?
Did he who made the lamb make thee?
