Thread: Inception

    Default Inception

Now that the second trailer for this movie is out and it seems to make a bit more sense, who thinks this could be interesting?

    http://inceptionmovie.warnerbros.com/

I've been a fan of Christopher Nolan since Memento (before the whole Batman thingbob). This looks like it could either be really smart, interesting and exciting...or total light-headed rubbish.

Nice, I may have to break my "no theater" rule for this one. <3 Nolan's movies.

Reminds me of Dark City. Looks interesting. Should be some cool visuals, at least.

Looks like they're set up for the "you didn't know this was a dream all along" Vanilla Sky type thing. And I second DW's visuals assessment. Not that awesome visuals is anything special anymore...
    The Rules
Copper- behave toward others to elicit treatment you would like (the manipulative rule)
Gold- treat others how you would like them to treat you (the self regard rule)
Platinum - treat others the way they would like to be treated (the PC rule)

meh, should have left it alone at the 1st trailer

    Review

I didn't read the whole thing to protect myself from spoilers, but that's a pretty good review. They're saying it's better than Nolan's The Dark Knight, which is obvious hyperbole, but I'll probably have to check it out now anyways.

No theater rule ???? Are you serious? I hardly ever watch movies outside of a theater.

I don't like to watch trailers by the way; too often they consist over everything that's good in a lesser movie. Making watching the actual thing a bit of a drag.

I think the last movie I saw in a threatre was Watchmen, and before that the Lord of the Rings movies. *shrug* Different people enjoy different things, whoda thunk it.
In the future, the Berlin wall will be a mile high, and made of steel. You too will be made to crawl, to lick children's blood from jackboots. There will be no creativity, only productivity. Instead of love there will be fear and distrust, instead of surrender there will be submission. Contact will be replaced with isolation, and joy with shame. Hope will cease to exist as a concept. The Earth will be covered with steel and concrete. There will be an electronic policeman in every head. Your children will be born in chains, live only to serve, and die in anguish and ignorance.
The universe we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is, at bottom, no design, no purpose, no evil, no good, nothing but blind, pitiless indifference.

I happened upon a trailer for The Adjustment Bureau on Apple Trailers yesterday, if it sounds sort of familiar, perhaps Adjustment Team sounds more so...

Can you imagine Watchmen having the same impact on a small screen? As for the Lord of the Rings, I wouldn't have sat out the 'Return of the King' if I'd seen it at home. It was simply too f-ing slow moving and at home the special effects wouldn't have looked as awesome.
    Congratulations America

That's the point. I doubt The Girl Next Door or Cruising would have anything substantial added to them by a "theatre experience".

You'd be surprised, the fact that you went out, sit in a theatre sort of helps the film; you are more inclined to even give slow starters a chance.
    Congratulations America

    I don't think that's really a problem for me

Maybe I should add that I live within walking distance of 3 cinemas (soon 4) and have got a card which gives me unlimited access to 2 of them (soon 3). That probably colours my perception.

Planned to get one, but didn't because I am out of the country soon. Will probably get one when I get back (you are talking about pathé unlimited, right?) It's a really good deal! BTW, I am still bummed that every time I go to pathé Tuschinsky I end up in the new part of the building and not in one of the old halls

I've read a lot of great reviews for Inception, really looking forward to seeing it. Memento is one of my favorites.

  21. #21
Indeed. I saw Memento three times in theaters when it came out. Granted this was a decade a ago and I was more easily convinced into wasting money like that. But I still have the ticket buried in my wallet.

If this does well everyone is going to be talking about/renting Memento and acting like they fracking discovered it. Fucking hipsters.

  22. #22
    Memento was awesome.

Meh, theaters. I only go to them for the visually special movies. Truly special, not just "ooo, CGI."

Any of the big blockbusters will get you into salon 1. It looks impressive but actually it's a bit outdated; the screen is relatively small. Number 2 and 3 are not that special. TBH I prefer De Munt most of the time though they seem to have a problem with cleaning; I once had a mouse running over my foot.

Is that part of a 4D experience?

Nearest cinema to me is 20miles away, so i don't bother going much.

Anyone who prefers going out to the movies needs to man up for a proper home theater setup

  26. #26
    1) The wife claims the experience is a large part of going out to a movie.
    2) Advocating for conspicuous consumption? President Bush would be proud of you.

Ah okay. The lobby and outside look awesome, so I figured the old salons would be impressive too. Only been at De Munt once (had free tickets for an avant-premiere!), but it was clean then. Of course, that was a sunday morning at 10.30 Pathé in Eindhoven is pretty good, and there's an arthouse cinema with tiny salons but excellent movies

And there's apparently an avant-premiere for Inception too, maybe I should check that out

Oh, and they're apparently putting animated shorts before some movies soon

I'd have to go to the movies a lot more often to make that interesting. And going out is part of the fun, it's more special I suppose. Going to a bar is usually also more fun than drinking at home, and going to a restaurant more fun than eating at home.

    1) There are two industries that marketing has more than earned its keep. Movie theaters, and diamonds.
    2) For anyone considered a movie fan (lets say once a month), staying in comes out cheaper way before most extended warranty plans run out. At least for an American family when an average ticket is > $10, and 3D prices are toying with $20. This also ties in to how staying at home allows you easier access to more of a selection, especially indies or controversial subjects.

    special = marketing
bar is a social thing. Movie watching is not. One thing I never understood about taking a new date to a movie, sitting beside each other for almost 2 hours, not interacting at all, except to see how awkard that next arm movement is going to be.
And why is a restaurant more fun? Because its less work? Which doesn't show anything here. Or because the food is better than what you can muster up? Which would be the whole point of a good HT, so at minimum there is no quality difference.

Get back to me when you can purchase an IMAX size screen with 3D and the usual IMAX sound system in addition to the room to store it all and run it all in, and on the cheap...
