Thread: If I was president

    Default If I was president

Chaloobi, if you were president, what would you do?

Like, what would be at the top of your agenda?

Same goes for the rest of you. If you were president, what would you want tot tackle first and foremost?

I'd likely want to tackle problems with inadequate and unnecessarily costly healthcare in large parts of Sweden, and focus on the inadequate care of the elderly and the bummed-out.

Drugs, drugs, drugs, drugs and drugs.

Even going as far as to releasing nonviolent offenders.

I can't say what I'd do. I know what I'd want to do, but looking at the way our fucked up government works I know it would never ever come to pass. Its fucking hopeless. That's the last job I'd ever want.

Yeah but I'm wondering what you'd WANT to do!

I would legalize all drugs, with appropriate age limits. Addictive drugs would require a perscription so everyone using them could be monitored. Dispenseries would provide instruction and clinics so users could be helped and protected from overdose, addiction and harm to the public. Performance enhancing drugs, mental or physical, would be legal as well. Sports would be divided among the natural league and the enhanced league. All students would have access to brain enhancing drugs to maximize their educational ability. Anyone wishing to commit suicide and who is of sound mind would be invited to any clinic to lethally overdose on the drug of their choice.

When I am queen of the universe faggotty fags will be able to get married (and divorced) to their faggoty hearts content, no matter where they are indulging in their faggoty behavior.l

    Maybe.

    Regarding Marriage:

    1. Yes, anyone can marry anyone.

    2. I would also legalize plural marriage of any number or gender and all legal responsibilities and rights would be conveyed to all partners.

    3. Marriage would be more difficult to enter into - requiring a waiting period (several months at least), various kinds of training & counselling (including financial, conflict resolution and child-rearing), and a test that has to be passed before you get your license.

    4. Marriage would be more difficult to get out of - requiring a waiting period (several months at least), conflict resolution training and marriage counseling.

Why should someone be stuck in an unhappy marriage for any period of time at all? If anything, it should be made easier to get out of.

Something along the line of saying "I divorce you" three times.

Chaloobi's approach to marriage seems to be very child-production-oriented in general. A very utilitarian view, but from the society's POV probably pretty pragmatic; the societal upheaval and instability caused by people being stuck in wretched abortions of marriages isn't easily quantifiable, let alone its effects on GDP etc.

His idea of drug clinics helping drug users "avoid addiction" is also pretty curious.
In the future, the Berlin wall will be a mile high, and made of steel. You too will be made to crawl, to lick children's blood from jackboots. There will be no creativity, only productivity. Instead of love there will be fear and distrust, instead of surrender there will be submission. Contact will be replaced with isolation, and joy with shame. Hope will cease to exist as a concept. The Earth will be covered with steel and concrete. There will be an electronic policeman in every head. Your children will be born in chains, live only to serve, and die in anguish and ignorance.
The universe we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is, at bottom, no design, no purpose, no evil, no good, nothing but blind, pitiless indifference.

Dragging out an unhappy marriage is far more likely to cause societal problems than ending it quickly and efficiently. It's also harder on the kiddywinks.

And staying together "for the children" is possibly the most fucked up thing you could ever do to a kid. You don't think a child can tell when their parents are unhappy? And is a miserable worker really a productive worker? Unless, of course, they decide to become workaholics while being forced into staying in marriages.

Marriage isn't a date, its not a roommate, its not a business partnership. Its the most important social institution human civilization has to offer and its supposed to be a deeply considered and carefully maintained life-long cooperative committment. I believe part of the problem that leads to divorce is that people enter a marriage without much thought partially because they know they can get out without much trouble. Furthermore, because divorce is so easy, as people change over their lifetime and they get a whim or an urge to change partners, or be partnerless, or do whatever the various life stage crises come up with, they indulge the frivolous and abandon their marriage. If entering marriage requires serious and careful thought and planning with the knowledge that it isn't something that can easily be dissolved, people will treat it with the respect and caution it deserves and all society's ills regarding divorce will dry up and blow away. The answer's in the wind my dear. The answer's in the wind.

You really should try to leave your pope-mobile upbringing behind.

(Was it even catholicism? I'm not good with the memory stuff)

Two people can still maintain a life-long cooperative committed partnership without the recognition of Chaloobia, or in our reality your respective government. What benefits in Chaloobia will be conferred upon people once they've successfully entered into marriage? If there are no benefits, no sane or rational person would enter into a contract in which there are only negative consequences. If there are benefits then it does become akin to a business contract (between Chaloobia and the to-be-married couple), since there are major negative consequences for entering into this arrangement, and considering my first sentence, people will only get married in Chaloobia if it is beneficial to themselves. This degrades the meaning of marriage and how it is viewed in Chaloobia. I don't really think you've thought this through. Your own laws would either result in no one marrying, or marrying solely to gain substantial benefits. You'd effectively ruin marriage as a social institution.

Besides that, you've setup a paradoxical situation. If you truly loved someone, you wouldn't enter into a contract that is difficult to exit from that effectively binds another person to you, who may or may not, decades from now, no longer feel the same about you as they do now.

You can probably guess exactly what I'd do if given control of the nuclear football. I certainly wouldn't waste my time with something useless like encouraging long term marriages.

You'd have to make me dictator in order to get me to do the job.

And there we have the reason why I don't want the job (and why I really shouldn't have the job )
When the stars threw down their spears
And watered heaven with their tears:
Did he smile his work to see?
Did he who made the lamb make thee?

I'd have to be Her Royal Highness The Queen, actually. Screw being a president or prime minister, those people have a screw loose by choosing to run for elected office.

Its not condescending, its a critique of the idea you put forward. I also cannot boil it down, as it only contains points relevant to and to back up the statement made in the last sentence of the first paragraph. I'm unsure of how to approach this when a paragraph, nearly equivalent in length to your own, is to long for you to read.

I agree that any two people should be able to marry. I also agree that marriage should be harder (more expensive?) to get into, but I really think it should be a lot easier, and cheaper, to get out of!
I don't have a problem with authority....I just don't like being told what to do!Remember, the toes you step on today may be attached to the ass you have to kiss tomorrow!RIP Fluffy! 01-07-09 I'm so sorry Fluffster!
