Some creepy Nessus picture, like Darth Vader cuddling a baby, would do the trick too.

The light that once I thought compassion still casting shadows in your action
The words you shared were cold transactions that bring me to curse what you've done
When you're up there absorbed in greatness with such success you've grown complacent
I hope you scorch your many faces when you fly too close to the sun

Owl instructions, Elmer Fudd, Lightsaber Kids, and idiot shading his eyes are the best. Thank you for posting.

It's funny because I've shaded my eyes while wearing a backwards hat as well

Hope it doesn't stay this heavy for long, the difference was only about 15 minutes

Up to about 4 inches now. That's really quite enough.

Take the car out into a emptyish parking lot that hasn't been plowed. Go up to 10MPH, go in neutral and hit the emergency break while turning the wheel. It'll be fun, trust me did it a few times in college.

I've driven in snow before - also had the entertainment of sliding down the driveway at my old house when I very much needed a trip to the store (to buy artificial sweetener when I had sugar, no, I'm not crazy or anything)

I won't be getting out of here for a couple of days, though - I live up a steep curvy hill, and then my driveway is an even steeper but not curvy hill. I'd really rather not kill myself at the moment.

edit: Oh, we don't get plowed. We get salt/gravel/deicer sprayed - and just on main roads, the residential areas and neighborhoods won't be made passable.

    Indeed it does...

He was back in within a minute, maybe next time he'll believe me when I tell him he really doesn't want to go out there.

Has your cat ever been out in snow?

Yes, although not since last winter, and then it was only about an inch. The other kitty is much more sensible and just looked and blamed me for allowing this to happen.

I stuck a kid's ruler in the snow on the back deck, we have 6 inches. Insanity.

6 Inches = Insanity? So in the case of snow, less is better for you?

Perfect! Time to go sledding! Build a snow man! Yay! The kids have to be excited.

Yes, I commented somewhere that it's funny how in the case of snow 3 or 4 inches seems like way too much.

They're not particularly excited - my daughter is currently bundling up hoping she can make it down the hill to her friend's house (the real problem is going to be getting back up if the freezing rain that comes next starts heavily). I doubt my son will stick one toe out.

We don't get snow, we barely get cold. Kids are in shorts and the sweaters are already packed up. But I wanna post snow pictures, so I'm stealing this one from NASA.

The weight distribution is off, the wheelbase is short, but your beetle is at least RWD. Find an empty lot and drift for reals next time.

you live on a hill, you have a 1/decade (or so) snow storm and the kids arn't all about sledding? where do you live, Stepford? wtf. I sled every year with the kids - they can't get enough of it. You don't own a sled, do you? You know, a flat cardboard box might work....

No, when I was in high school (living in this neighborhood, remember) a kid went sledding down one of the hills, hit a mailbox, and died from his injuries. My daughter is now at one safe place to sled with her friends. Also, from when I was a kid - large baking sheets and trash can lids are awesome for sledding.

Also, we've already had some freezing rain, so it's not particularly fun to play in. My son did go out, though, so I was wrong on that.

Lots of trees - must be pretty there in the summer. And you live in the same neighborhood you grew up in? Ugh. I would be miserable.

I wanted out of my old neighborhood, immediately. This worked.

Snow here is nice. I won't go out in it because there's nothing to do--especially in my neighborhood--but a few days off of school is always welcomed.

As far as I can tell the Beetle hasn't even been on a wet road for a decade if not more. I won't be taking it out for this, though that would be plenty fun. I could rent a MiniCooper nearby for $8 with ZipCar. I wonder if that would be fun, even though it's short and FWD. Not really the best use of cash, I'll stick with my 3rd generation 1952 Flexible Flyer.

That's a nice sledding hill! Jesus, you have so much space to do things in the snow. Like make a castle, but no dogs will pee on it like would happen here.

The picture is the first full-sky image from Europe's Planck telescope which was sent into space last year to survey the "oldest light" in the cosmos.

It took the 700m-euro observatory just over six months to assemble the map.

    ...

"What you see is the structure of our galaxy in gas and dust, which tells us an awful lot about what is going on in the neighbourhood of the Sun; and it tells us a lot about the way galaxies form when we compare this to other galaxies," observed Professor Andrew Jaffe, a Planck team member from Imperial College London, UK.

But as beautiful as the Milky Way appears, its emission must be removed if scientists are to get an even better view of its mottled backdrop, coloured here in magenta and yellow.

This is the famous cosmic microwave background (CMB) radiation, and a key target of the Planck mission.

The CMB is the "first light". It is the light that was finally allowed to move out across space once a post-Big-Bang Universe had cooled sufficiently to permit the formation of hydrogen atoms.

It shows what is visible beyond the Earth to instruments that are sensitive to light at very long wavelengths - much longer than what we can sense with our eyes.

Researchers say it is a remarkable dataset that will help them understand better how the Universe came to look the way it does now.
