It's weird because I never really cared about horoscopes before. But the idea that my horoscope designation has been inaccurate for this whole time somehow makes me care more and start looking into this stuff to determine if I am in fact an Aries.
Though apparently this "discovery" is more about sussing out what dates the more eastern variant of the Zodiac symbols correlate to.
Perhaps you should consider recommending that your friends spend quality time with the school guidance counselor.
edit: Also, I'm reasonably certain that, while I don't believe in that crap, 9.9 out of 10 people would guess mine correctly. That's kind of disturbing, now that I think about it.
We're stuck in a bloody snowglobe.
It's true, at least for Magnetic North. Airports using that to light and paint navigation tools for pilots have had to shut down, because Magnetic North has moved. The hubbub was started by the article in Sunday's Star Tribune, which said the following: "The ancient Babylonians based zodiac signs on the constellation the sun was 'in' on the day a person was born. During the ensuing millenniums, the moon’s gravitational pull has made the Earth 'wobble' around its axis, creating about a one-month bump in the stars' alignment."
If people used tropical zodiac, nothing has changed. As a Scorpio, however, it's not nice to lose one's planet.
This is not news, move along, move along.
If they adhered to the tropical zodiac - which, if they're a Westerner, they probably did – absolutely nothing has changed for them.
That's worth rephrasing: If you considered yourself a Cancer under the tropical zodiac last week, you're still a Cancer under the same zodiac this week.
That's because the tropical zodiac – which is fixed to seasons, and which Western astrology adheres to – differs from the sidereal zodiac – which is fixed to constellations and is followed more in the East, and is the type of zodiac to which the Star Tribune article ultimately refers.
Two zodiacs. That's nothing new.
"This story is born periodically as if someone has discovered some truth. It's not news," said Jeff Jawer, astrologer with Tarot.com.![]()
Oooh, no.
Good thing you're not a person.![]()

The Rules
Copper- behave toward others to elicit treatment you would like (the manipulative rule)
Gold- treat others how you would like them to treat you (the self regard rule)
Platinum - treat others the way they would like to be treated (the PC rule)
Clearly my phrasing there should have included people who actually know me. Not figments of my imagination. Who either see me in really odd ways or are just pulling signs out of their ass. I'd much prefer the pulling signs out of your asses, since I have just spent longer reading about zodiac signs (looking up both Virgo and Cancer) than I ever have before today.
*sigh*
The only reason I said what I did is because for most of my life people have accused me of being what I actually am, even after I quit celebrating birthdays many years ago.
We're stuck in a bloody snowglobe.
I've always read them just for fun. Just like fortune cookies.
That said I haven't really looked at mine in ages. When I do I read both Libra and Scorpio to see how big a difference the prediction is. (I'm Scorpio but only a few days off of Libra, hubby is the exact opposite)
It's like discovering your imaginary friend isn't really a natural blonde.![]()

Overheard a couple of cashiers at the local hardware store discussing this. How retarded.
Morons have to be cashiers?

Come on, who can resist reading fortune cookies with Chinese take-out?![]()
I didn't need the spoilers, it's not that hard to fathom your analogy.
My logic can be broken down into the following: half an once of liquid elitism, two cups of condescension, a sprinkle of douchebaggyness, and top it all of with a hint of placidity.
Ok ok fallacy by association or was it composition? I always mix them up. However, over the course of the years, I met individuals who couldn't add two digit numbers. I ignored those who clearly had some form of mental retardation because their genetic composition impedes upon their ability to perform [insert task] as efficiently as the rest of us. Heck, if the person was a foreigner, i wouldn't make any jaded commentary because they have exponentially increased their living condition by moving to America and working a low-end job. What I don't respect is when a citizen, who attends or previous attended high school in America, is unable to add or subtract numbers, use the cash register, bag my purchased products , or simply being competent individuals, especially if they've been working there for over six months. It saddens me that half those morons I see working the local Giant's cash register are my fellow classmates.
I came off a little bit more callous than I intended to, but it if walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, something something something then why not call it a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae.
Astrologers and other similar snake oil sales-men prey on the gullible stupids of this world, and as such should be shot in the face as the current US rhetoric goes.
Also, a local physicist once calculated that the city's tram system's trams exerted a greater force on a new-born than the stars, which would suggest that horoscopes ought be drawn up using the time tables of the tram system rather than the month of one's birth. As to "who can resist" the allure of the stupidity that are horoscopes, how about any thinking persons who realize it's a bunch of stupid shit?
In the future, the Berlin wall will be a mile high, and made of steel. You too will be made to crawl, to lick children's blood from jackboots. There will be no creativity, only productivity. Instead of love there will be fear and distrust, instead of surrender there will be submission. Contact will be replaced with isolation, and joy with shame. Hope will cease to exist as a concept. The Earth will be covered with steel and concrete. There will be an electronic policeman in every head. Your children will be born in chains, live only to serve, and die in anguish and ignorance.
The universe we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is, at bottom, no design, no purpose, no evil, no good, nothing but blind, pitiless indifference.
It's a form of free entertainment for most people. Horoscopes and Chinese fortune cookies are fun! Some gullible folks do pay for that stuff....and some take it quite seriously. Even Nancy Reagan.
