Thread: What game are you playing now?

  1. #1051
Found my last statue in Assassin's Creed 2 last night. Fucking Pluto. Perhaps the closest one to my front door, but I missed it cause it was positioned perfectly out of my line of sight.
Thats at least one filler fetch quest that I've finished.

Formatting my computer re-installing Windows in order to get rid of my DirectX problem so I can play the games that aren't currently working. A bit extreme maybe but haven't done it in 2 years anyway and getting rid of a lot of crap and making stuff more organised in the process. In the process of rearranging my files at the moment on my HDD's, uninstalled everything on my PC apart from display driver and Firefox now. Once I've got my files sorted neatly I'll take the current drives out, put in a new HDD I bought today, install Windows, then plug the old HDD's back in. Done this a few times before on IDE, never on SATA before, hoping it can understand correctly that the new Windows I'm about to install is the one to boot from, not the old one. Once done, I'll move files from my old directories into my new one, then format to get rid of the old Windows only once everything's fine.

I've done this repeatedly for nearly a decade now, got about 5 folders deep of "Old PC's files" of crap I've never got round to deleting which seemed important at the time from each generation of machine. Even though my current machine's already SATA, still got my last ever IDE drive plugged in. Still got files from about 4 PC's and 7 HDD's ago this way.

You may have to tell the BIOS which drive to boot first, but most motherboards pick the SATA ports first anyway.

  4. #1054
That's the thing, I currently have 1 SATA and 1 IDE HDD, which the SATA one has my current Windows. In past I'd put my new Windows on the Master and old one on the Slave under IDE.

My new layout will be 2 SATA (new one, old one) and 1 IDE still just for storing stuff. I'm not sure how to ensure which SATA is prioritised. Got another HDD I bought for this purpose months ago before I moved but lost it in a box that's not been unpacked yet so will eventually have 3 SATA (each 1 TB) and the 1 IDE if I can be bothered to keep it (0.5 TB is still useful).

    Absolutely typical!

So a couple of weeks ago I bought some new games, got home and opened one - and the case was empty. Went back to Game and they apologised (and took my word for it thankfully) and gave me the disc and manual. Manager said when I asked its not too unusual with the number of temps they employ around Christmas. Problem 1.

So then I try and install it and can't, it can't get past installing DirectX and the programmers didn't allow you to skip the DirectX install. Problem 2.

So just rebuilt my machine. So far got it running fine, no problems. Windows 7 doesn't seem to involve that many changes, not yet plugged in my old HDD's but all running OK. So install game, it speeds through installing DirectX (afterall its already installed) and then the game, no problems. Game finishes installing, choose to play it and it wants to download latest updates. Done, simple. Then it asks for the Product Key - oops. In the last few weeks I've lost the manual, can't find it now.

Turns out the new Xbox 360 S design doesn't require special hard drive enclosures. A correct model, properly configured, 250GB drive can plug right in After learning that I managed to sell my old Jaser Unit Xbox 360 for $100. Which means I ended up with a new Xbox 360 S with a 250GB hard drive, and Kinect for a grand sum of $200.

Found the manual, put in the product key and now reached strange problem 4: It keeps wanting to download updates, I'm now on the fourth update in a row. Not that strange you might say - perhaps not but they're all in German. Patrician IV is now "Patrizier IV" and the whole update install software is in German, I'm just clicking Next and Finish by a not-so-random guess of "Well that's where you normally click to continue". Hoping by the end of this my game will still be in English.

  8. #1058
I think I had that same problem with Patrician 4. The game ended up in english at least, or I was somehow able to make it turn back into english. I think they just forgot to localize some bits.

  9. #1059
Got to playing the game eventually!

It's fun, and in English. The software patch installation was in German but none of the game is, its all in English . Quite fun, never played any in the series before - but played Port Royale II which was by the same original makers of the original Patricians I believe. Very, very similar style.

    Acitivision strikes again!

Guitar Hero is cancelled, the development unit canned, and the same goes for DJ Hero and the guys behind those games.
If you haven't played either, now is a good time to start looking for clearance deals.

Picked up Bayonetta for $12 from Target on the way to work, really want to play it, but damnit I need to finish AC2.

Is someone else going to pick up the Guitar Hero brand? It's very successful.

According to the number crunchers it was successful but will continuing with the brand will result in significant losses.

Black Ops has been too successful and the old genre bandwagoning is back in vogue.

The Plastic crap games is a niche market now. Activision milked it for what it could and didn't like the diminshed returns it was delivering now. You can only get so much innovation when you push out 20 different Hero games in 7 years (not to mention the 10+ Band games in the past 5 years)
Some people go for that, just like the Madden series.

The success is in the rhythm, which is why Haramonix jumped ship to Dance Central.

I really wish there was a strictly multiplayer shooter... like call of duty but theres so many different eras of maps you can play and there would be an extremely in depth map creator, more so then Far Cry 2

  15. #1065
Could never get into Guitar Hero but I am a Rock Band junkie. I think it all depended on which one you started playing first. Once I started Rock Band, trying Guitar Hero confused me.

  16. #1066
Never tried Rock Band, why bother when I already had multiple guitars? Annoyance with Guitar Hero though was we couldn't get the Drums seperately. I already have 3 guitars, two mic's, why would I want to buy the whole band again just to get the drums?

  17. #1067
Finally finished Assassin's Creed 2. Got a few side things to do to finish up my achievements, but the game is beat.

    To quote the game.
    WHAT. THE. FUCK.

If the game is able to convey this type of emotion, I'm going to be all over it. Amazing trailer for Dead Island

    Oblivion

Just started and going to the shops, buying food, using mortar and pestle to mix the food into potions - or sandwiches I think - then selling the potions back to the same merchant. Making a tiny bit of money from this while increasing my Alchemy and Mercantile skills. Alchemy is a main one from my class so doing this has got me to level 2 already.*

Seems almost an exploit. Worried though I may need those provisions or potions later, do the merchants regain stocks of food after I've done this?

  21. #1071
Yes they do and right across the river from where you escaped the sewers, there should be an Aylied ruin where you can get a shitload of loot to sell. Just dont sell the Aylied stones if you find them though because you can use one to get the Finger of the Mountain spell in Chorrol

Started playing Fable III. Also am in love with Space Hulk, Death Angel the card game.

Fuck everything about achievements that don't add to the gameplay or push along the storyline.
Now to find my next game...

Geeze, Bulletstorm is definitely a game not intended for minors. Fun though.

Dragon Age 2 looks good as well.

    Bulletstorm is awesome.

It's a refreshing take on the FPS genre..

I picked up the 1989 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles remake on Xbox Live last night. For $4.99 I bought 400 "points" and spent them on that game and 2 additional levels for a game called The Maw, that the Xbox team sent me for free a few weeks back (and I have no idea why).

First time I've ever used Microsoft points. What a stupid fucking idea that system is.

Don't even get me started on the XBL points. What a pile of shit, wait till you have to purchase a map pack and notice you can't actually buy the right amount of points you need. Then you find out it gets worse as your left with 200 points after purchasing 1500 and nothing to use them on.

  28. #1078
Thats why I ended up buying those levels for The Maw. I wasn't going to let my points sit in my account and not get spent. It took me years to finally buy a digital arcade game through them, and I suspect a while longer till I do it again. So I figured I spent $5 on the turtle game and I may eventually play through The Maw.
At least on Games for Windows Live, I can use real cash. Even when the game only costs 90 cents.

Considering all the ChuckECheese tokens I spent on the Turtles and Xmen games when I was a kid, $5 is still worth it.

Not a fan of DLC, still haven't given in to that on Steam yet. So car/character/map packs have always been beneath me. Fuck everything about avatar items too.

The CoD map packs are better than the original content, hence why I buy them. The new zombie map is superb and a lot of fun. However the avatar purchases are crazy, who on earth actually cares about having designer wear on it? Madness.

Bought Pokemon Black and White today. Amazon is doing $10 gift cards per game, and I figured that was the best deal I was going to find for a while. Likely use that extra $20 to buy platinum/gold/silver in the coming weeks.
