I was pointing out the silliyNess that GGT can't tell the difference. And again, I favor seat-belt laws for public roads.

But you can NOT get away from government.

That aside, your response is if you don't like it leave the State/Country?

That is the same idiocy that Neocon Foxers said when Bush was in office.

Well, at least in liberal democracies your participation in government and its functions is voluntary in the sense that you can choose to go with another service provider. It just takes some time and money, but what doesn't? And in the same liberal democracies one has about as much say on what the government does as what huge corporations do, so.

It's a lazy argument on both sides, I know.
In the future, the Berlin wall will be a mile high, and made of steel. You too will be made to crawl, to lick children's blood from jackboots. There will be no creativity, only productivity. Instead of love there will be fear and distrust, instead of surrender there will be submission. Contact will be replaced with isolation, and joy with shame. Hope will cease to exist as a concept. The Earth will be covered with steel and concrete. There will be an electronic policeman in every head. Your children will be born in chains, live only to serve, and die in anguish and ignorance.
The universe we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is, at bottom, no design, no purpose, no evil, no good, nothing but blind, pitiless indifference.

    There's always Antarctica, y'know?
When the stars threw down their spears
And watered heaven with their tears:
Did he smile his work to see?
Did he who made the lamb make thee?

In libertopia, it's not. Smart people get insurance, dumb people wither away and die without inconveniencing anyone. It's a very nice place to live.

When auto insurance was voluntary, plenty of people didn't buy coverage. Worked fine until an accident, and they couldn't pay damages. Off to court they'd go, being sued to pay for car repairs and/or physical injuries and medical costs, defending against liability or fault. Law or no law, it ended up in the legal system.

Yes, but they want to turn back time and re-embrace that system.

I know, it's almost a romanticism of the Good Old Days. Which, of course, wasn't nearly as freeeee as imagined.

Now what you could've asked was how often Enoch does business with Blackwater or any other company in the security business, to which he'd respond with "most companies aren't in that line of work" or similar. Which of course ignores that his ideology would hold that the major functions of government, one being holding people at gun-point, should be out-sourced to private companies. But this all hinges on the idea that people have to be held at gun-point in the first place, an idea which the extreme right and extreme left both deny for the opposite reasons. C'est la vie.
I don't know of very many libertarians who support outsourcing the police force to private companies. It certainly isn't on the party platform.

And there's also the bizarre fallacy about the moral difference between holding someone at gunpoint and allowing someone shot to bleed to death, but that's just way too polarizing to discuss.
...Something which is also conveniently missing from their platform. Tricky devils.

I'm sorry for the confusion; I was referring to the movement, not any political party currently registered in the US.

*shrug* I am exposed to some thinkers, mostly US and minority Finnish, whom I'd label under the umbrella of libertarianism (without their dissent), I can't really do much else than go with what I see. I don't think this has to have any bearing on our discussions any more than what left-wing thinking you're seeing, and if I paint you with an ideological brush you disagree with I am quite happy to accept your displeasure.

I do not understand how your response to GeeGee takes a position either way on the rights of children.

I don't think there's much to be upset about. If you intend to keep intellectual blinders on, that's certainly not going to be the end of the world. It does seem rather Lewkowskian though.

as that was not what I thought I was responding to.

But to clarify, a serious libertarian would say that as they are individuals (granted they have limits on their decision making), my right to be stupid ends at their noses, even if they are my own kids.

I don't see how. I do realize I aggregate the extreme opinions of the libertarian mind-set because it serves my own purposes (and pleasure), but I am not myopic enough to believe other kinds of libertarian (such as yourself, apparently) exist. I am perfectly willing to discuss politics with you on a person to person level and not consider you some childish caricature of libertarianism, but I fail to see how parading the obvious failings of the extreme right is holding intellectual blinders. Certainly I'm the first person around to mock the failings of the extreme left.

I realize libertarianism doesn't really fit neatly into the left-right axis but nothing these days really does, so bear with me.

So long as there are limits, and someone has to make those calls for them, does a higher authority (and I don't mean a deity) have the right to inspect those decisions?

Okay this is all great but we were talking about Draco's position on the matter of 12-y-o kids hooking up with adults.

Are we back to brothels again? Good, the seat belts were getting old.

Q: If adults shouldn't be having sex with 12 yr olds, and legal brothels in the US wouldn't hire a 12 year old prostitute.....would it be okay if they accept a 12 yr old "client"? How about if the kid's father brought him for sexual services, with parental consent?
