Thread: What's messing with your Groove?

I hate when they get old.

The Easter bunny brought me a pack of the mini-Cadbury eggs. Why the heck have I not ate one yet? Hmm, this needs to be corrected immediately.

I will be sure to make my attorney aware of that fact! Thanks, Hazir! I suppose I could have named Mom or The Kid to take care of things while I was down, but at the time I didn't think I'd be hospitalized for a month, and still recovering, as much as I am, almost 3 months later.

I sure hope the Dr. can come up with some suggestions as to why my joints are all so stiff and sore! I am willing to have more tests done, take other (more) medications, whatever needs to be done to figure this out. Mom suggested it's because I am retaining fluids. A friend suggested being tested for MS. (We seem to be in a pocket where there are a lot of cases for our population. There are at least 15 people I know here, or who were born here and lived here for at least 18 years, that have MS.) Another friend said being tested for an auto-immune disease would be a good idea. This just started happening about 2 weeks ago! If I sit for more than about 15 minutes, I have a hell of a time getting stretched out or unkinked or whatever, so that I can walk without looking sorta like a baby taking his first steps. That and my fingers/wrists being this sore and stiff bother me the most. My knees have been shot for years, so I just ignore that, my elbows I don't notice much unless I am actively thinking about them, and my shoulders are sore as hell if I raise my arms over my head, but I don't do that too often, so don't notice them as much. Then, to top it all off, my back seems to be getting worse. Maybe it's just the joints being so fucked up that makes me notice the pain in my back more. Hell, I dunno! I just want to be able to get up without hurting!

My pesky work monitor is well and truly annoying me! Black is being displayed as a haze with hints of red, I've attempted to auto adjust and manual adjust but still nothing. I think I might put my moan hat on yet again and demand a new monitor!

Can anyone tell me if a widescreen monitor will zoom into an image or allow me to display more of an area? For example on our MIS app I can see 5 working days at any given time, if i want to see a forward date then I have to scroll to zee right. Will a widescreen monitor give me more viewing area? The senior planner has 2 monitors doing what I want, but I don't like two monitors when one widescreen monitor would/should suffice.

Depends on the application. If the application designers are numbnuts then you'll only get more (unusable) whitespace inside the application. They may also decide to stretch everything provided with a higher resolution.

They may also have opted for displaying more content.

I think I might have to bring my LCD TV in and check, if it works I'll get them to order me one because I'm going to kill someone if I have to sit in front of this.

What makes matters worse is knowing I've got a 27in Mac behind me but none of our applications work on it.

    -edit-

Where are my manners, thanks Khen.

Even in a VM? For example, Sun's VirtualBox is able to display application windows in a "seamless" mode, which means that you can run Windows, Mac and Linux applications all at once and NOT have them stuck inside the VM-Window.

However, this still comes with the usual restrictions which go for VMs.

I'm just going by the feedback I had, although you can say it might have been an excuse to get me off their back.

Sports trainer at school called. My son failed the post-injury concussion test. Some ass hole creamed him with an illegal move last night, smashing his head into the ground. Not an emergency, but he sees the doctor tomorrow for evaluation. Screens and sports off limits for one week. He's going to be pissed about that.

  9. #2559
Sorry to hear about your son, GGT! Hope he gets better soon!

It's fucking yucky outside...again! Dammit, I want summer, not this drizzly spring shit! It's cloudy and gray and rainy and yucky and cold out, again!

He'll be fine, just glad concussions are "tracked" now. He's pissed he may miss out on a Varsity letter as a freshman--he has to play a few more varsity games to qualify and the season's almost over.

It's too fucking hot here for April. Trade ya.

It just feels like this winter has been longer than others. I am not the only one who feels that way...almost everyone I have talked to feels like this!

OMFG, my joints are so sore! I am so tired of them aching all the time, and being stiff and, in general, hurting all over. I know I'm whining again, but dammit I hurt. I was hoping the Lasix would help by reducing the fluid retention, but it hasn't helped my joints a bit. I started taking glucosamine/chondroitin again, so hope that will help some!

Of course, a great case of bursitis in my elbow is what made him decide I should take Advil on top of the other stuff! The last 2 payments I have made on the cable bill haven't gotten to the office. They are going to shut off the TV on Friday if I don't come up with $125 to give them. Well fuck, I don't have $125...because I spent it on 2 money orders that I sent to the cable company! Goddamned US Mail service. Of course, if the cable company would come into the right century, and have online bill paying, this shit wouldn't have happened. Well, I guess I get to go begging again tomorrow! How fucking fun!

Sounds like a joke.....how many people does it take to hook up digital converter boxes and transporter adaptors from comcast, and migrate basic cable tv to digital service? How many people does it take to program new remotes? How many people does it take to find the codes for your television set?

I'm up to at least four people now, including the comcast technical support person

Communicomm never did get my payments, so I had to borrow enough to pay the bill I have already paid! At least, since the first of April, they have managed to set up a website that is capable of online billing! But, it took me 30 minutes to get my account set up.

WTF, nVidia really sucks at making drivers, apparently. I still haven't gotten my video card to actually use the analogue tv-out, so I tried installing new drivers. I have now noticed that without any drivers installed, the tv out works perfectly. Crisp image, good colours, like it should be. Unfortunately, without any drivers, I can't play back any videos (which is pretty much the point of using the tv out). And when I install any nVidia drivers, it stops working. How crappy are your drivers when the device works better without them...

Well, just a tad bit of venting regarding parenting. Tough Love is harder than it sounds.

My older son and I have gone through a lot lately. But it's time for me to put my foot down regarding Home Rules. Even though he considers this his Home Base, and wants to claim he doesn't live here anymore, he can't have it both ways. He's either got to shit or get off the pot, so to speak. He's either living here and helping out (or paying rent), or he's an invited guest. If he can't behave as a considerate over-night or weekend guest, he won't have an open invitation to "visit".

    Gotta love this parenting gig...

I will tell you my little anecdote from my past as the son of a woman that lives in her own home with her own determined sense of what is right and appropriate.

When my Dad died (I was living with my girlfriend - she later became my wife) I felt compelled to be around my mother to make sure she was "doing ok", I was clumsy and naive and mostly wrong but felt that I needed to be there for her. Little did I know at the time that my Mum new exactly how to get on with her life and the last thing she needed was one of her sons trying to split his life in two (I was spending some nights back home and others with my girlfriend in our rented house) supposedly for my Mum's sake. Undeniably to some extent I treated her home like it was my home when really I had no right to do so since I had moved out a few years earlier. Looking back I think that maybe I wasn't helping her as much as I thought and was simply struggling with my fathers death and my own uncertainty about adulthood that now lacked the guidance of a wise and kind man (my Dad) but that was really no excuse for coming and going the way I was. I needed to be pointed in the right direction and I was about to find out that my Mother was more than capable of doing just that.

My mum basically collared me one morning and said "Right, we need to talk." and 15 minutes later I was back home with my girlfriend feeling like I had just been told to grow up. I've not spent another night in my mums house since then and we now have a fantastic understanding of and respect for each other that can largely be traced back to that candid conversation on my mother's front porch as I was leaving for work.

The point of me telling you all this is that what she had to say was pretty damn close to what you posted. It was what I needed to hear despite the fact that it may have hurt a little to hear it, I really did need to get on with "my" life and, of course, so did my Mum.

I think if you say to your son pretty much what you just posted above he would really have no reason for complaint - although if he is an overly sensitive kid you may need to throw some qualifiers in there that makes sure he doesn't storm out and never return. It can be very embarrassing for a young man to be told off by his mother for behaving inappropriately but you certainly have every right to make it crystal clear to him how you feel and why.

It may well be true that Boys will be Boys but when they reach the age where they want to Act like a Man then they damn well better Be a Man.

Well fuck! I have been home for 3 months now, and I don't seem to be one damned bit better than I was when I came home! Sure, I'm not as shaky, and not nearly as nervous about the insulin and the testing and whatnot, but that's about the only improvement I can see. I am retaining fluids like mad, I have a headache that won't go away, (working on day 6 of the fucking thing now ) I'm weak, and I am basically useless to anyone or anything! I am just so damned disgusted! I should be feeling better, be able to be more active, and be able to stay up a full day without a fucking nap like a 2 year old! /rant

Thanks for sharing your story, termite. There is a dynamic going on between mother-and-son, and father-and-son, but in separate households and twisted ways. Lately, I've tried to operate as if their father is dead (because he's mostly absent and fairly useless as a father, let alone a co-parent). That isn't working out very well, obviously, because there are still things like holidays, birthdays, summer vacations....and of course he's not dead to our sons, but a very important person who's still part of their lives.

Complicating matters is that our boys are five years apart in age, so while the older one is on the cusp of "Emancipated Manhood", the younger one is a teenager with very different needs (and expectations). Older kid can pretty much ignore the soon-to-be-step-mother, but the other kid can't. In fact, just today he called to say, "Dad is coming to watch my post-concussion Impact test from the sports trainer. Not sure why, but [she] probably told him to....."

I know it's because his fiance is an Occupational Therapist who works with head and spinal cord injuries, and she told Andrew: "You should never play contact sports again. After one concussion, it will only get worse, but never better". She scared the kid half to death, and that pissed me off. He began to worry more after reading latest news about that football player who donated his brain to science, and killed himself (while avoiding an overdose or a gun in the mouth, to keep his brain intact and chemical-free).....and studies on a growing number of boxer, rugby and football player brains showing irreversible brain damage...

It's taken the last couple of weeks for me to convince him that a Level One concussion is something most kids experience, even if it's from slipping on ice or falling out of a tree. I had one after doing stupid gymnastic stunts without a spotter, his dad had one from a pop-fly baseball to his forehead --- and another when he ran his 6'4" body under a six foot doorway splitting his head open! Young brains can heal, that's why it was important to take the Time-Out and Time-Off. They have better helmets now, there's no head-butting allowed, and they DO pre and post Impact studies to be on the safe side!

But nooo, she thinks he should stop Lacrosse and has somehow convinced his father of the same thing? (The same man whom I couldn't convince of any other brain development while they were toddlers or early school-aged, btw.) Young boy finally found a sport he really loves and excels at....attended every practice and game, even when he couldn't play....so excited to improve and play better with the team....even looking at universities with Lacrosse teams and scholarships!

oops I'm rambling again, such a verboten thing around here lately.

<<munchie, naps are good things, often wasted on two year olds! Hope you were able to plant those flowers for your mum as planned.>>

I believe there is a conspiracy between old man winter and tween-aged spring! FFS, it's rained every day since Sunday evening! It cools off enough at night for it to turn to snow, but warm enough we aren't getting any snow accumulation! I hate rain like this. I can handle a rain every evening for an hour or so, but not this all day shit! It's gray and depressing, and that is the last thing I need. I'm already depressed enough about my health! I need sunshine, dammit! I swear, my webbed feet are starting to grow mold!

<<GGT, we got about half the flowerbed ready to go, then it started... *all together now*...FUCKING RAINING!! Oh well, we got some of it done anyway. And yes, I know that naps are good, unless you NEED one every fucking afternoon! Isn't there a 2 year old out there who is missing his/her naps? If so, contact me at oldmunchkin is tired of sleeping 12-14 hours a fucking day.com!

EDIT: In trying to get The ex-Friend off of my phone plan, I have run into a rather large snag! Since the contract isn't even close to being up on 2 phones and 1 internet USB plug thingy, it will cost me around $500 to get those off of the plan! For now, I have just shut them off without being billed for them, altho that just pushes the contract end date farther off!

Then I got an e-mail from The ex-Friend asking if I had shut the phones off! He was trying to make a payment and couldn't understand why he couldn't call them to do so. Unfortunately for him, he was 2 months behind in the bill and Verizon had shut all of them off about 10 days, and he didn't even notice. I had to borrow almost $600 to pay 2 months worth of bills. Of course I shut their fucking phones off!! If he can't keep his end of the deal, why should I? I e-mailed him back, very calmly, that is he would care to send me the amount of the loan, along with this month's payment that is due the 28th, I would be happy to turn them back on. BUT, he needs to agree, and mean it, that he will pay the bill on or before the 28th of every month!

I really REALLY hate that there extra scenes/trailers after the credits. I'm pretty sure less then 1% of the population gives a crap about the credits. No one cares if you were a sound director, make up artist, voice actor, animal trainer or whatever the hell 90% of the nobodies in the credits were doing. Simply do not care. Making people sit through five minutes of unimportant information is just plain retarded.

Because, of course, movies would still be worth watching without all of those "nobodies."

I actually enjoy some of the silly shit you can find in the credit rolls. Lots of WTF nicknames (we did the same thing in the Test Drive Unlimited game) and locations, lots of positions given credit you didn't think would have been used in the making of the movie. Besides, its basically Marvel's "thing" at this point. You go into those movies expecting to wait till the very end. The diehard fans are rewarded for not rushing out in a crushing wave of people.

Anyone seen the credits at the end of the extended 4 disc set of Lord of the Rings? One of the movies actually rolls through all the names for the membership of the UK LotR's fanclub

Whenever we went to the movies with my mom, she made us sit through the entire credits. She always liked to read names of people, and the enormous amount of staff it takes to make a movie. She thought someone should be reading those hard working individuals' names, so it may as well be us. She also liked to read the song titles and artists, which is always near the last to be credited in the lineup. Also, it's nice to sit in the theater while the other loud annoying folk trample out, leaving you to saunter out when you like, and the bathrooms wouldn't be so crowded.

While I'm sorry you feel those folks don't deserve any credit, I understand where your mindframe is, so enjoy trampling out with the other loud, annoying folk as you go.

They got paid, that is the bleeping credit. And oh by the way I don't have a problem with credits. I have a problem with showing additional stuff AFTER the credits. Its a win / win situation. People who don't care about the credits get to see the extra part BEFORE the damn credits and silly people like your mom STILL get to see the credits.

What they are doing currently is forcing people to watch the credits in order to see an additional scene. Knowing full well 99% of the people don't give a flipping crap about it. As a consumer that is insulting.
