Cold Stone did a "promotion" today for a "3oz" serving of ice cream, as a donation run for the Make-A-Wish foundation.
So I load up the van with the kids, drive through traffic (promotion was between 5-8pm), and this is what I end up with:
If they were planning to turn this into a glorified sampling, why didn't they just make a corporation donation and not make themselves look so damn cheap?

You loaded up your kids in the van for a 3 ounce serving of ice cream, and missed the whole Make-A-Wish foundation promotional idea?![]()
Had a flat tire on my bicycle last night, so had to take the bus. Of course, I find out 5 minutes after the bus passed, so I had to wait 55 minutes.
So today I fix it. Often it's a bit tricky to find the tiny hole that leaked, but today it was fairly obvious:
I don't think I've ever had a hole this big in my tire!

In the future, the Berlin wall will be a mile high, and made of steel. You too will be made to crawl, to lick children's blood from jackboots. There will be no creativity, only productivity. Instead of love there will be fear and distrust, instead of surrender there will be submission. Contact will be replaced with isolation, and joy with shame. Hope will cease to exist as a concept. The Earth will be covered with steel and concrete. There will be an electronic policeman in every head. Your children will be born in chains, live only to serve, and die in anguish and ignorance.
The universe we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is, at bottom, no design, no purpose, no evil, no good, nothing but blind, pitiless indifference.
My "timing" on this forum is whacked. Most every time I am chatty and/or drunk, no one else seems to be around. Sick poker hand, huh.![]()

Egads, I hope that wasn't your hotel, Bitter!
More of my ex-husband-whine-fest---now that he's going to "flip" his bachelor hovel of a house (with some long over-due impetus from the township citing him for public health violations), my garage is filling up with his shit! Not only is he using our sons to help him clean up his shit, hack away vegetation that grew tall enough to bring down the gutters while making a haven for rodents from his backyard to kitchen, filling one dumpster after another.....
.....he's got our kids bringing home art work with black mold behind the glass (he tells them the frames are valuable) and big black trash bags full of I don't know what crap that came from their old bedroom or the basement (which was flooded several times but been ignored for years)...and they can only work for an hour at a time with a goddamm HEPA mask because it's so disgusting.....and he keeps telling them "you need to save this".
This is really messing me up. I had no idea he'd show up at my house with a car load of this shit at 6:30am, after texting the kids to "come to the door and get this".![]()
Simply throw everything away that's infested with mold. Photograph it first, maybe ask a friend who's got a background in medicine to take a look.

LEGOLand Florida
Its built on the same location as the old Cypress Gardens, and it shows, badly. Most of the rides are left overs, to the point that they didn't even bother to repaint or repair the old paint. What is new are nothing more than carnie level attractions. There is nothing "LEGO" about the park except for a lunchroom sized area of the gardens that some addmittingly impressive builders showed off their work. Except most of the designs were already broken, yellowing badly (rejects from other parks?) or simply not working. They advertised it as for kids 2-12, but there was absolutely nothing that Scarlett was allowed to do.
Kids had more fun playing inside the LEGO store in Downtown Disney.

Okay, so why is it again that PayPal is allowed to hold funds for 180 days without having to give an actually valid reason? Could someone from the "regulations are evil, durrr!"-crowd explain this particular phenomenon to me?

I've heard about this happening for years. Why would any sane business continue relying on Paypal? This is a case of people not being bright enough to vote with their wallets. Paypal is a borderline fraud, and I really don't understand why any small business continues to use them.

Hope is the denial of reality
It obviously doesn't happen to enough people to make a real splash. I'm just as mystified as you are. My last experience was on eBay where I wanted to buy something a bit more expensive and the seller only accepted PayPal. I went through the sign-up rigmarole, only to discover that PayPal did not accept neither my bank account nor my credit card for that particular purchase. They also just told me: "Computer said no!" when I asked them for a reason.
Contacted the buyer directly, we agreed on a different method of payment and that was it.
If they did that to me and it was a substantial sum like in this example or with the developer of Minecraft, I'd also take them to court and sue for lost interest.

I'm amazed there's no class-action lawsuit against them. They engage in deceptive practices, freeze people's money without due process, don't allow for appeals, and are obnoxious in general. If you were to tell a person all the practices Paypal engages in without using the word "Paypal", they'd think you were telling them about some scammer.
Coincidentally, more banking regulations wouldn't help because Paypal isn't considered a bank (for good reason).
Hope is the denial of reality
They actually applied for a banking license (and got it) in Luxembourg. I'm not quite sure why they haven't yet slapped around a bit with a big trout. Obviously they don't take such stuff very seriously in Luxembourg.
Here are some more examples for PayPal behaviour:
- They tried to enforce the US-American embargo against Cuba in Europe. Anyone who deals with Cuban goods will get an ultimatum from PayPal. Well, that cost them some very large customers, Rossmann for example, Germany's 3rd largest drug store chain.
- They locked the account of a father when his son's account was overdrawn.
- They cancelled subscriptions without the consent of the account holder. Even when the subscription was brand new and did not even incur any costs yet...

Yesterday at 10.35 a friend of mine tried to use my laptop to check his email. When he told me he couldn't get online I checked what was wrong and found out that the internet connection had gone. Seconds later I realised we had no electricity. Since it had been raining for 12 hours straight that didn't surprise me too much. It's one of those things you expect living in Istanbul.
After 2 hours we realised that our building was actually the only building without power and we decided to call the electricity company. They knew of no power failures (of course) and told us to get an electrician to check our own system. We did as ordered and the electrician told us what we already suspected; our system was just fine, but not getting any power from outside. Then we called the electricity company again and this time they sent an inspector around, who duly established that we had no power.
Again 2 hours later a crew came to check where the problem originated and it turns out it is right in front of the building, they tell me that they have to tear down a conrete step in front of the door to get to the problem. I have two choices; to allow them to break down the steps of live without power for an indefinate period. I take the first. They go ahead and make an incredible mess both inside and outside, but the old power cable is replaced. The mess they leave behind.
I decide that I should at least try to clean up the mess in the entrance and I get started. Untill I notice that I can't move the door. The door I should explain is a quite oldfashioned door made out of heavy steel plates welded together, with double laminated glass behind decorative ironwork. It weighs a ton (almost literally) and I can't move it at all, not even if I put all my weight behind it. Turns out that they have been breaking things with so much enthousiasm that they actually dislodged the door and the hinge it moved on. That hinge is a goner and to open or close the door you need at least two people.
This morning I wake up at nine and find out that the city has sent people around to fix the street in front of my house (last time it took them 3 weeks to do so) and to my suprise they not only fix the street but also my steps. We even manage to find somebody to do the door (and that appears to have been fixed as I am typing this) .
What I also realised though, while looking down from the balcony was that they could easily have avoided all this mess if they would have NOT taken out the old cable, but simply have bypassed the steps when putting in the new cable, just like the people from the water company had done, by simply going between the steps of my building and the adjacent building.
I could have gotten into the press screening of 50/50, and I really wanted to see it - but we had a collective hangover and were honestly unable to get there before 11AM.![]()

Ok then! Someone did miss me!Anyway, I didn't get married, in fact not even speaking to the man at this moment! Slimy bastard decided it was too "much" helping me with my living expenses! Then, he decided I'm fucking the (ex)mayor/mortician! FFS, I had to borrow the money to pay my bills, so am helping the (ex)mayor/mortician with some cleaning at his laundromat! This may actually become a job for me, but not sure yet!
As far as everything else goes, it's been a shitty couple of months! Mommymunchkin, The Kid, and I decided to have 1 more "yard" sale. Since we were having it the end of September, we decided to have it out at the fairgrounds auditorium! This was a good thing since it rained cats, dogs, and purple-people-eaters for the entire 2 days of the sale! We did end up selling a LOT of shit!We still have a lot of shit, but the pile is diminishing! Well, in the process of getting ready for this sale, I managed to fuck up my back again!
Moving on from sale, I made an appointment to see MY doctor, only to find he has left town! FFS, now I have to break in a new doctor!I hate breaking in new doctors. They always think they know best so start fucking around with my meds! So far tho, so good. I had to have the drug store fax a request for my Flexeril and this new doc checked my chart and went ahead and refilled it! He REALLY refilled it! He gave me 3 more fills on it, whereas the last doc would only do 1 fill with 1 refill! Maybe this new guy won't be quite as bad as I feared!
A good friend's Mom died!I absolutely adored Mary Anne! She was an awesome lady! The only good thing about this is I got to see my cousin who is married to one of Mary Anne's sons! I also "reconnected" with Von! She and I have been friends for about 40 years. Not that we ever really "lost" each other, we just haven't had time to spend, just the 2 of us, in probably 25 years! She has come to see me every day this week while she is here settling the estate!
Bad thing is, Von thinks she has to take care of the world! She is worse than I am in that respect! Well, she has decided I need her to help me out since I was so fucked up money-wise! IVon, but I wish like hell I didn't need her help! I hate taking from anyone! To be truthful, she saved my ass this month! She is also trying to get her brother to let me clean his house for enough money to meet my bills every month! I so hate having to have help!! I appreciate her so much, but I so hate to have to take her help!
Anyway, as you can all see I have not fallen off the face of the earth, at least not yet!I am not back in the hospital! I will admit to giving up on the meds they had me on! FFS, I have ballooned up to about 130 pounds!
The last fucking time I was this fat in the belly, I got something out of it...The Kid! So, now I'm on a diet...again! Unfortunately, quitting the fucking enzyme pills and cutting my calories to around 800 a day, I am still gaining weight! Well fuck, maybe I'll go back to drinking! I KNOW that works!
I don't have a problem with authority....I just don't like being told what to do!Remember, the toes you step on today may be attached to the ass you have to kiss tomorrow!RIP Fluffy! 01-07-09 I'm so sorry Fluffster! People who don't like cats were probably mice in an earlier life! My mind not only wanders, sometimes it leaves completely! The nice part about living in a small town: When you don't know what you're doing, someone else always does!
