Thread: Some of your favorite things....

Default Some of your favorite things....

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things.....

It's not lyrical, but I do love a fresh blanket of snow. All that frozen water on tree limbs and roof tops. Dressing the world in white. It smells good, too. Crisp cold air, so fresh, yet spiked with wood smoke. Starkly dark skies with dancing stars. Low moons that light the whole ground like a giant lantern, and move away quickly.

It's so peaceful and quiet. Little animals make no sounds, no chirping birds or squeaking squirrels. No insects. Just remnants of bunny foot prints when they hopped about in search for food. Deer walk so silently in their grandeur, never seen until they're gone. I like the fawn prints following their mama.

We have a local albino deer that everyone loves to glimpse, even once. She appears like a shadow or a ghost, makes you do a double-take. Did you see that, did I just see that? We also have a three-legged deer that hobbles along with her group. She was hit by a car, we figure. Haven't seen her in a couple of years now.

I love how my cats have a thick winter under coat, so fluffy and soft. Even indoor animals respond to seasons, that's rather fascinating. It's also fun to watch my kitties watch the snow falling, and crouch when they see some other animal out the window. A cardinal, a crow. The indoor prowl. We've tried to take them outside when it's cold, but they're prissy indoor ladies. They'd rather fall asleep by the fire, in a cardboard box.

Another one of my favorite things.....children warm and snuggled in their beds on snow days. Big puffy comforters and down blankets burying them in warmth. Kitties sleeping with them, barely blinking an eye when the announcement comes: school is cancelled, turn off your alarm. Kids mumble and return to sleep. Cats blink, well, of course---wait, you woke me to tell me that? Hmph, humans. ZZZZZ

    Also.....

freshly laundered sheets, with a hint of bleach and Downy
    chocolate
a clean car with a tank full of gas and hours to drive, with no destination planned
really hot water for a bath, filled with scented bubbles
    silence, alone
    great music at full blast
a long sleep with lucid dreams
    strong dark coffee
    silence, with someone I love
    holding hands

That feeling you get when you know you are finally on holidays - you don't even have to be going anywhere, just knowing you don't have to go to work/school for a few luxurious weeks!

Ahh, the snow. I remember one early morning at the Texas Tech campus after a late night snow (yes, it occasionally snows in Texas). It was around 3or 4 in the morning and the snow was perfect, undisturbed, quiet. The soft lights surrounding us, the snow and I. It is quite possibly one of the most serene sensations I have ever experienced. I walked around the campus enjoying the feeling until the city commuters started to make they're ways to wherever they were going, then it was gone.

The smell of fresh hardwood mulch....smells like Busch Gardens in Williamsburg

The smell of rain on hot asphalt

Opening a candy bar wrapper, specifically Hershey chocolate bars. The tin foil is shiny and crinkles just so....

Waking up after having randy dreams and noticing you've made a tent with the duvet.

My OWN bed to sleep in!
My OWN apartment to be in!
The peace and quiet you take for granted until you don't have it!
The awesome friends I have in BFE!
Cousins who squeeze in time to visit me in the hospital!
Friends who drive to Casper for the sole purpose of visiting me in the hospital! (You may remember that Casper is 110 miles from BFE, so that's quite a trip for a couple hour visit with someone who is completely out of it!)
Freshly done laundry that smells oh so clean and crisp!
A clean apartment that smells of good cleaners and not of antiseptic!
Knowing I don't have to go outside at all tomorrow...especially since it's snowing like a big dog right now!
I don't have a problem with authority....I just don't like being told what to do!Remember, the toes you step on today may be attached to the ass you have to kiss tomorrow!RIP Fluffy! 01-07-09 I'm so sorry Fluffster! People who don't like cats were probably mice in an earlier life! My mind not only wanders, sometimes it leaves completely! The nice part about living in a small town: When you don't know what you're doing, someone else always does!
    Atari bullshit refugee!!
