Am in the market for a new mouse, after the left-click button on my current one is slowly dying.

I would ideally like a robust wireless optical. I have had three wireless opticals in the past, two of which didn't work properly.


The Microsoft Wireless Mouse 6000

... and a similar Logitech mouse ... both had an awful delay on cursor response. You move the mouse, and the cursor doesn't move, then suddenly jumps to where you've moved it; awful lag in other words, and makes usage almost impossible.

I'm therefore cautious about wireless, but know that they can work.

Soo recommendations please ... ?

Oh, it needs to be large too. The above mouse was way too small.

Usage - usual: gaming, browsing, stuff

The one I use the the most, because I like it the most is Logitech's MX Revolution. Looks like newegg's dumped it in favor of a newer model, but I find it just about perfect. (And I guess that means it's lasted me almost a couple years now, so it's reliable.) Got a nice place to rest the thumb (and a scroll wheel button there if you want it), decent weight and size, good battery life, reasonable range, one those two-speed scroll wheels and a few programmable buttons for throwing grenades or switching to alternate fire mode... which I suppose you could also map to something boring for Excel or whathaveyou. Definitely an expensive rodent, given that I could have bought like 20 hamsters for what I paid, but I think it's well worth the price... and I definitely get more use out of it than I would out of a herd of furry rodents.

anywho, I use a Microsoft Sidewinder X5. Amazing mouse, larger then the old logitech MX510 i had before, but its not as roundish. Truely reminds me of the glory days of the Sidewinder brand. They have a wireless version, the X8 I believe its called.

Not a fan of Razers, cheap shells feel and look like shit in no time.

I believe Saitek makes a wireless mouse thats customizable on weight and size. Cyborg or something like that. Its a top tier mouse, heard very few complaints from the people who dropped the cash for one.

gaming + wireless

So wireless + gaming is a bad idea?

Cos one of the three wireless mice I've had in the past was fine for gaming, no lag whatsoever.

The other two have been fecking hopeless.

Should I just go for wired then? Prolly cheaper too.

Wired is usually cheaper, but if you get a good mouse the miniscule amount of possible lag is easy enough to compensate for. You have fanboys on both sides of the isle. I'm a wired boy myself, more for the fact that I don't have to worry about knocking an expensive mouse onto the floor for any reason.

Really? I always buy the cheapest ass mouse available (wired) and they always work like a charm. I didn't know there were that big differences. Just a mouse.

I like the Microsoft wireless 5000 mouse heaps, I've had the same one for like 4 years now. Can't imagine the 6000 is so much different. There's no lag or jumping at all.

I can vouch for Cain's option; I've used it for years myself. The only problem was Logitech had sucky drivers and worse tech support, but I figured out all the problems in the end.

Plus, got it for $30 on eBay instead of $120. Look for deals.

I've had one of those for sixish years now. No complaints. Being able to change the dpi on the fly is surprisingly useful.

I've been using a trackball exclusively for personal use for the last 15 years and much prefer it to a mouse. Unfortunately my current one is on its last legs and new trackballs these days are all some kind of slim-line model that don't fit my fairly large hand all that well.

Have gone for the Logitech G9x, which Amazon had reduced from £69 down to £48 (US$78).



Wanted the dual-scroll wheel with the free-wheeling option, which I find extremely useful on the mouse work provides for me, the Logitech Vx nano.
