California Governor Jerry Brown [official website] on Saturday signed into law a bill [AB 2501 text], prohibiting the so-called "gay panic" defense that has been used to reduce homicide charges to manslaughter.

Seems sensible enough. Though I would hope juries would increasingly reject such arguments as silly.

But does this in any way make it difficult to defend against someone who goes into a tizzy and feels threatened by a genuinely unwanted sexual advance of any type? IE if we remove the sexuality angle (say it's a man and a woman who are in a bathroom stall at a nightclub doing coke off a toilet seat, and then one gets frisky).
