    Default Disable an apps sound notification on Android?

    I don't like a game having sound notifications on my phone or tablet, find it very irritating, unprofessional and rude. But I'm perfectly OK with a notifications via an icon on the top of the screen. However I can't find a way to individually switch the sounds off. I can switch the sound of notifications off altogether, in which case I lose sound for notifications I do want. Or I can switch the all notifications off for that game, in which case I lose on screen ones.

    Surely there should be a way to isolate sounds by app? On the IOS you can choose easily.

    If the game allows you to choose a notification sound, you can set it to "None"

    And if it does not? If it only gives the option to receive notifications (or not) then what?

    IOS gives you three choices on how you want the notifications to appear, so you can disable sound but keep visual. Is it really all or nothing with Android?

    Check out appscomposer or notifypro, third-party apps but both may help you accomplish this and more

    Why? The OS ought to be able to isolate and over-ride an app, not the other way around. In Windows I can mute programs via Windows itself rather than having to select mute in the program.

    Appscomposer looks interesting, will give that a go thanks.

    Really ought to be a native option in the OS.

    Because that's how it works in Android, and that's what the developers should implement. I agree it would be better for the OS to have an override, but since it doesn't at the moment, app developers should ensure you can customize sound notifications through the app itself.

    Yes they should but given most apps aim seems to be to be as obnoxious and pushy as possible it is silly to rely upon them being good natured.

    Isolation by the OS has been a standard feature for a long time in other systems it's poor form by Android to be lacking in something so basic.

    This has nothing to do with the government, the free market has encouraged other OS's to develop this as a feature and I hope Android follows suit. Doesn't need regulation or any other nonsense.

    Got appscomposer and now everything is silent but I'm not getting the visual notifications either. Basically has just turned everything off.

    I think it's not really ideal to build an OS with the ability to disable certain functions within specific apps. Seems like a raw deal for developers. If an app is stupid and needs a feature, that should be on the app developer and the feedback loops built into that app/the OS ecosystem's app store.

    Also what game is this, so I can avoid it.

    My grandfather thought the phone was intended for his personal use....and if he didn't want to hear the phone ring (because that would mean he'd have to answer the caller) he'd take off his hearing aid. Or he'd turn off the phone ringer volume. He died before answering machines became the norm.

    WTF is wrong today, that people can't figure this stuff out on their own?

    Notifications are a function of the phone not simply a function of the apps. I ought to be able to separate the volume for the sound I get for a text message or an app I consider Urgent from a sound I get from a non urgent app.
