Default Do these people have any value?

"DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say they've arrested three young men after they beat up a disabled Navy veteran who told them to stop torturing a turtle at a central Florida apartment complex.

The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports that 45-year-old Garry Blough was attacked Tuesday afternoon. He says his wife had told him three people were outside smashing a fresh water turtle to the ground and kicking it.

Blough says he went outside and told them to stop and then told his wife to call the police.

An arrest report says the suspects, ages 23, 18 and 16, punched Blough and then kicked him while he was on the ground. Paramedics said Blough suffered shattered skull and facial bones, a concussion and a severely injured eye.

Daytona Beach police arrested the suspects and charged them with aggravated battery and animal cruelty."

    *Shattered Skull and Facial Bones*

Yeah let's let that sink in.

But of course I'm sure the criminal lovers like Khen will bleat and whine and talk about how an 'excessive sentence' (probably anything over a year) is cruel and unusual punishment. Frankly strikes to the head once someone is down on the ground should carry an automatic attempt of murder charge. Hopefully the 16 year old is charged an adult, hopefully all three of them die in prison. They quite literally have no worth as humans and richly deserve to be separated from society forever.

    This doesn't really say anything.

Now don't confuse pointing our your bullshit with taking sides, but the victim here walked home from the hospital after the attack. Interviews and photo ops show is he is pretty bruised up, but isn't sporting any casts (does have a knee brace).

Doesn't say anything? He could have been killed.

I walked home after my assault ended with me in hospital but that doesn't mitigate the injuries or how much worse it could have been. 13 years later I still get pains where I was assaulted ending with a shattered eyesocket and will no doubt for the rest of my life - no doubt the shattered skull he has is even worse.

Hopefully his attackers get more than the six month sentence mine got.

Regarding the thread title, who the fuck are we to answer a question like that? And who the fuck are YOU to even ask it? You think you're God now?

yes, the attack could have ended far worse than it did. but the description Lewk is fantasizing over doesn't actually say anything concerning the severity of the injuries or threat they pose to his recovery. Its an empty sentence put in there for shock, and of course Lewk got hooked.

The attackers are facing multiple felonies.

We don't know that. Skull is made up of 8 main bones and we don't know the severity or location
I question the severity because the attack happened tuesday; he was treated, released, and walked home and its only thursday. Better written articles, with daylight photos, were published yesterday afternoon.

The real question here is, what did the turtle try to steal?

Society gets to answer that question once someone harms others like this.

No, not really. The judicial system, which was set up by "society," tries "these people" and if guilt is found, determines their punishment. Nobody asks or answers the question of whether they "have any value."

The question is unanswerable and stupid because there are many measures of value and many points of view to do the measuring. Ask an actual Christian and they'll say something to the effect that everyone is redeemable and forgivable, that these people have value in the eyes of God, Who has a plan for everyone, and therefore they have value in the eyes of anyone with Faith. If you ask their mothers, odds are you will get a different answer than if you ask the victim of their crimes, or some outraged, judgmental asshole reading about the case on the internet. If you ask a death penalty enthusiast, you might get the answer that they have value in the deterrent effect of executing them. Hell, who can argue there is no value in using their various organs for transplanting into the medically needy?

Organ donor sounds positive but a bit draconian for me.

I'm not into Christianity or any of that bullshit.
