In some cases, some kinds, for some people yes. In other cases, for some people, some kinds should not.
    The Rules
Copper- behave toward others to elicit treatment you would like (the manipulative rule)
Gold- treat others how you would like them to treat you (the self regard rule)

    Had to add the qualifier.

Well, it came up in my AP Lang and Comp class. We had to write a prompt whether we supported the ban of handguns or not. So, i wanna know what you guys think.

I think I won't do your English assignments for you, because you need the practice.

Figure out what your teacher believes, then agree with it.

Otherwise you will fail the class.

Ah. Now we have some more information. Should hand-guns be banned. Again, the answer is some times, in some places, for some people. And those all get mixed up. Can you be more specific or is the question really about a total ban in the US?

Solid advice. Maybe not fail, though. Probably lose the 'benefit of the doubt' in the very subjective matter of paper grading.

    More Agreeing!

Due to my suspicion of political leanings of teachers, I'm suspecting that the teacher has a hard on for banning hand guns...so best to agree with him/her.

No, it was an inclass timed prompt. I've already written it.

Are you going to share your opinion on the matter?

  15. #15
Well, I wanted to be conservative for once and make a case pro-guns. So I got my prompt back. Those are just my pertinent paragrpahs. I'll write quote myself:

"Not everyone can afford an alarm system, and it should never be a substitute for a gun. Not all of criminal issues are robberies either, it's called homicides, and they don't have to have a reason. Not everyone wants to maintain or buy a dog. One of my parents friends had to live through a home invasion that their dogs slept through. They now own guns.

Once again hiding in a closet isn't a solution all the time like you pointed out early you could be shot in the street yes you most likely wouldn't be carrying a gun but I don't believe there are any closets either.

Child death's relating to gun accidents are less than that of drowning, so we should ban water. Out of every 100,000 people approximately 0.03% is due to gun deaths. Blaming guns for accidents is like blaming airplanes for crashing. If we banned all airplanes there would be no more crashes!

Restricting gun laws would not make america more safe, and not even stop suicide rates. Smuggling and black market trade hasn't stopped murder rates in Paris, which is remarkably worse than Philadelphia despite it being a socialist utopia. Japan has barred nearly all use of guns and their suicide rates is 3 times of America's. (America having an average suicide rate) teens prefer guns but strangulation, hanging, and overdose of pills work just as fine. Increased gun ownership decreases crime, criminals seek out easier targets.

Restrictive gun laws only hurt law-abiding citizens. Not criminals. Make the playing field even. It is not your right to ban guns for other people, and banning guns would only help murder and crime rates."

I got a "see me after class" and a 6 out of 9 on my prompt........This is my lowest score ever...I thought I defended the case well enough to get an A on it instead of a B+.

EDIT: the "you"s mean "my teacher". He made a case for gun laws.

EDIT 2: This blows, we can't even refute it and resubmit it. D:

...you didn't get a B+ though. 6 out of 9 is a 66.6 repeating, so a D - or basically a borderline F. Why do you think he asked to see you after class? In addition with assignments like that if you're being asked to respond to a written opinion, you either have to defend it, or highlight how its flawed, not formulate your own opinion and then defend that.

Also its Lang and Comp, I'm guessing Language and Composition, ie. an AP English course? So you would've been rated on that, not how well you refuted him. If you gave us an exact copy and paste of your assignment I can see why you were marked so poorly.

It also looks like he hasn't discovered the bread and butter AP English essay format of:

Paragraph 1 : The topic you are to discuss, your statement on it, potential lead into next paragraph.

Paragraph 2 - 4+ : Defense of your statement and supporting information. Last few sentences of each paragraph could potentially lead into the idea of the next paragraph.

Last Paragraph: Summary of the topic you are to discuss, your statement on it, the points you defended it with, wrap-up sentences.

    Dear Icky,

I know you will read this thread. After you do, I would then like you to rethink your opinion of my daughter's writing skills. I know I have. Apparently her "research paper" would earn her at lest a 6/9 in an AP English class. I trust that depresses you as much as it does me.

Hope you're enjoying procrastinating again. Have a swell day!

    Much hatred,

Why do you love hating so many people? Wouldn't it feel better to hate loving so many people?

    Ban for excessive hippie
In the future, the Berlin wall will be a mile high, and made of steel. You too will be made to crawl, to lick children's blood from jackboots. There will be no creativity, only productivity. Instead of love there will be fear and distrust, instead of surrender there will be submission. Contact will be replaced with isolation, and joy with shame. Hope will cease to exist as a concept. The Earth will be covered with steel and concrete. There will be an electronic policeman in every head. Your children will be born in chains, live only to serve, and die in anguish and ignorance.
The universe we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is, at bottom, no design, no purpose, no evil, no good, nothing but blind, pitiless indifference.

    1) The problem with your paper is the problem with this thread: the absence of a thesis sentence. For example: the word "hand" doesn't appear in this thread until post #8. FAIL.

    2) You are doing the same thing for your paper as for Model UN. Don't expect respect OR help.

I didn't even try to fix a lot of the awkward grammar or the obvious problems that people have already highlighted. Point taken, lolli.
