Thread: Uvalde shooting

  1. #1

    Default Uvalde shooting

18yo gunman has killed at least 14 kids and one teacher at a school in Uvalde, TX. Suspect is also dead. Some sources reporting he shot and possibly killed his grandmother prior to the attack on the school.

The US is not a country that values the lives of children.

I'm already seeing Republicans pushing homeschooling as the only solution to gun violence in schools.

If all my siblings released attack ads about what a useless cretin I am, I'd just stop tweeting.

The republican and institutional response to this horrific tragedy has been astoundingly contemptible even by their already poor standards. Utter shithole country.

Some sources reporting that Uvalde's massive spending on the police bought them a bunch of cops who were there as/before the killer arrived and failed to stop him. So they, um, waited for backup (for their own safety), letting him enter the school. Initial reports attributed this to him wearing body armour, but now others are saying he was just wearing a plate carrier with no ballistic plates inside. Not sure about the veracity of any of those reports, but anyone calling for increases to police budgets is just an idiot throwing good money after bad.

A border patrol officer working outside of the local police is who stopped the shooter. The local police did nothing to address the massacre that was happening inside the classroom.

Another source quoting the police that they barricaded this gunman inside a classroom full of kids for an hour before anything was done.

Found out this morning that one of the teachers, Eva Mireles, was an aunt (half-aunt, if that's an actual term) of a good friend of mine. They'd never met.

The police allowed the classroom to get massacred because they didn't want to get themselves shot at

I can't keep track of the alternate timelines and accounts presented by the police, but they appear to be getting progressively more damning. I wonder how much would've come to light were not for the dogged persistence of journos. Also wonder who'll ultimately take the fall for this tragedy, and when we'll see the first police suicide. Abbott and everyone around him is a disgrace. Every single Republican politician and pundit pulling the same cynical pro-murder bullshit out of their asses as always is a disgrace.

That went about as expected when dealing with cowards like this

I'm a bit confused. What's the issue there, Aimless? If he was elected to the position before the shooting, he gets sworn in unless he personally chooses to decline. Granted, perhaps he should decline and that speaks to his character, but says nothing one way or the other about the town. Impeachment or recall are the remedies to him no longer being fit to serve in the position he was elected to.

Turns out that despite what the cowards Cruz and "police" claimed, a teacher did not leave a door propped open.

Sorry, pasted the wrong tweet ID. Link here: https://twitter.com/efindell/status/1531830016815812608

This is utterly insane. I went by Uvalde City Hall today to see if any public meetings were posted (as they legally must be), and none were.

Also tried to knock on the mayor's door today to ask a few questions and was forcibly blocked by police.

Note that police have not stopped reporters from knocking on any other doors in town, including those of victims.

To be completely honest, the police specifically stating that they did not shoot any children (one of their first statements) was a suspiciously specific denial. And given how all of their other statements turned out to be lies..

So apparently they never even tried the doors, and they may have been unlocked the whole time.

The US "experiment" in democracy has failed.

If we can't BAN citizens from having assault weapons designed for WAR because of a misguided and political definition of the 2nd Amendment, we might still be considered a Constitutional Republic....but we're definitely not the world's role model for what a civilized first-world democracy looks like, or how government (legislation and regulation) is supposed to balance individual rights and the common good.
